Re: Saints Hire Gregg Williams for D-Coordinator Job
I pity the poor Saints fans, they probably think they are getting a good DC.

Re: Saints Hire Gregg Williams for D-Coordinator Job
Man this is pretty interesting. Every year NO has that high-flying offense but can't become an elite team due to average/inconsistent defensive effort. Remember Williams took our d from average/inconsistent to a top 10 unit in 3 of his 4 years. This could be the move that puts NO in the elite category.

Why do you say that?

Re: Saints Hire Gregg Williams for D-Coordinator Job
The popular belief in the media and in GWs own head is that he is one of the top DCs in the league. I can see no justification for that in his career to date.

Re: Saints Hire Gregg Williams for D-Coordinator Job
A little more explanation would be helpful. Our d was average/inconsistent before Williams came to town and he turned it into a top 10 unit for 3 of his 4 years. Do you mean it had nothing to do w/ him?

Re: Saints Hire Gregg Williams for D-Coordinator Job
Interesting thought. Though I am now convinced that the whole "Rogers trade" is simply a product of LaCanfora's imagination. I was never a JLC hater, but he has progressively alienated me and his position by position "breakdown" was so horrible that I have no reason to believe anything puts out there.

Re: Saints Hire Gregg Williams for D-Coordinator Job
He already has Torrence whom he loves and if he trades for Rogers I would like a Vilma for Rogers trade.

Re: Saints Hire Gregg Williams for D-Coordinator Job
GW turned our defense into a top 10 defense in the years that he was here (save for that one year we went 5-11). His defense is the reason Gibbs 2.0 had winning seasons, since the offense never amounted to much. I don't think he is THE top DC in the league, but he is a very good one.

Re: Saints Hire Gregg Williams for D-Coordinator Job
Though he probably likes Rogers the fact remains that there are FA corners available and on top of that I doubt he would be involved in giving the Redskins anything of value in exchange for one of their players.

Re: Saints Hire Gregg Williams for D-Coordinator Job
Then you are blind. He has had top defenses everywhere he has gone and actually been in charge of the defense. Tennessee, Buffalo and Was all had good defenses. Outside of one below average year here and one below average in JAX(where he didn't have quite the control he needed) his defense have always been very good.

I'd do Rogers for their first rounder, but nothing less than that.

You weren't impressed with his 1999 and 2000 Titans defenses? The 2000 team actually ranked higher in yards allowed than the vaunted 2000 Ravens D that season. You didn't like his top 10 defenses here in DC? You weren't impressed by his top 10 defenses in Buffalo? Or do you just not watch football.
