Taylor Launches Official Flirtation With Pats, Dolphins
Posted by Mike Florio on March 29, 2009, 10:08 p.m.

Amid increasing chatter that defensive end Jason Taylor could sign with the Patriots or reunite with the Dolphins, Taylor has semi-officially declared that both teams are possible destinations for him in 2009.

On Sunday night, Taylor was asked about recent comments from Pats owner Robert Kraft regarding the team’s interest in Taylor’s services.

“I did hear that. I can’t lie,” Taylor said, according to Tim Graham of ESPN.com. “I have not talked to Robert Kraft. We’ll leave it at that. Those things will sort themselves out, and hopefully in the near future so I can get back to work.

“But it’s great to be wanted. It’s great to be wanted. Sure, especially an organization like them or the Dolphins.”

Ah, yes. The Dolphins. It’s interesting how Taylor slipped that one in there.

So would he play for them again?

“Absolutely,” Taylor said. “There’s no reason I wouldn’t.”

It’s a far cry from a year ago, when Taylor wanted no part of a team that he regarded as a rag-tag bunch, mired in a protracted rebuilding effort. Now that the Fins are the defending AFC East champs, they look a lot better to the 2006 NFL defensive player of the year.

And if Taylor can get the Pats and the Fins to try to outdo each other in order to land him, Taylor will end up with a much better contract that he’d get if only of the them were interested.

Taylor ultimately was traded by the Dolphins to the Redskins in July for a second-round pick. The ‘Skins cut him earlier this month after he refused to tie a portion of his 2008 pay to participation in offseason workouts.

Here's the actual ESPN story on this. As with most people, I take anything said by PFT with a grain of salt (especially anything about the Redskins, since apparently everyone on the team kicked Mike Florio on the groin or something).

New England Patriots get Jason Taylor's attention, but Miami Dolphins still on mind - ESPN

Ugh.
like Miami even will play .500 ball this season...every team in their Division has improved...and they no longer enjoy the last-place schedule...Parcells can blame Taylor for next year's mediocrity

I didn't say anything about their overall record, just saying that Parcells bent us over on this one.

You could argue that Miami has improved this offseason as well.

the gimmick offense will only take you so far..they aren't taking anyone by surprise..I think Jason is a pro..and had his heart in trying..but the wheels are not what they were..

and Parcells wanted cap-space...period

Well, they used the wildcat with a lot of success, but Pennington was outstanding last year with limited talent at receiver. They have a very good veteran QB, and a defense that improved despite losing Jason Taylor, a good O-line, and a good running game.

I'm pretty sure you're wrong about the cap space. I don't know exactly where they stood last year at this time, but other than Taylor they didn't make any huge moves money-wise. And they entered FA this year $32M UNDER the cap.

Parcells wanted extra draft picks more than cap room.

EDIT: The Dolphins entered FA last year $44M UNDER the cap. So yeah, trading Taylor had nothing to do with Parcells wanting more cap sapce.

Re: Jason Taylor back to the Miami Dolphins..?

mainly Parcells saw an opportunity to get rid of a problem child and a bonus of getting picks. Good GM move on his part. (and I am not knocking VC here, cause I thought it was a solid move for us too at the time)

I thought it was a good move for us at the time as well. In hindsight though, we got robbed.

I wasn't crazy about the move but I could understand the thinking behind it. Either way we got screwed.
