Re: Grade the Redskins Draft!

6 picks, 2 to possible starters, no OT's picked at what is our biggest need. Why waste a pick on a TE coming back from knee injury and a LB that was a RB with very little experience. I grade it a D cause they could have done much better. They could have traded up for Sidbury or Duke Robinson/AQ Shipley instead of wasting picks.

My 2 cents.

They didn't even need to trade up for Duke. He, Tupou, Meredith, and Johnson were sitting there in the fifth and they took a LB?

Re: Grade the Redskins Draft!

Are we grading the players or the efforts of the FO to make us a better team?

If we are grading the players, ask again in 2-3 years. It takes time to discern a Tom Brady from a Heath Shuler.

If we are grading FO effort, I give us a B-. In the draft we simply weren't going to be able to fill all 3 holes at OT, DE, and LB. Filling two of those holes through the draft would be a good draft. If Orakpo is the real deal, we filled one hole. If one of those LB's turns out to be something like the next Horton, we filled two holes. And let's face it, by drafting 2 LB's we are increasing the chance that at least one of the LB's works out. We all know that the draft is a crap shoot and hedging your bets is not a bad way of going about things. We also may have come up with Sellers' replacement, given that Sellers is 34 years old. But, at best, Sellers' replacement is a project.

It is hard to tell if we picked the right guys to fill these holes. Glenn seems like a strange choice but then again the Chargers once took a basketball player named Antonio Gates. And I do not know why we needed another WR. I'm with those who would rather have drafted Rashad Jennings.

So, B-.

Or at the very least let's wait until training camp before we roast them.

Everyone is so freakin trigger happy about this draft. We should be asking these questions after camps and/or preseason.

Re: Grade the Redskins Draft!

Can't really grade yet. Can't really grade last years yet.

I do like Orakpo, Barnes & Mitchell! I think Marko Mitchell could maybe make the team. It'd be sweet to see him do that and see how Thomas & Kelly react.

How are you guys beating us up so hard on 5th round picks on? I guess we should've gotten a starting OT there?

Don't think anyone said we missed out on a starting tackle. But we passed on some solid O-line prospects.

Todd Yoder was playing on the O-line last year and Stephon Heyer replaced Samuels when he was injured, that's why.

Are you trying to tell me that out of the entire draft we couldn't have gotten o-line depth, especially in the fifth? It was chock full of OTs.

Yeah, the past two drafts have been VERY deep with O-line talent, particularly tackles. In those two drafts, with a total of 16 picks, we walk away with.... Chad Rinehart. Awesome.

Re: Grade the Redskins Draft!

I'm thinking we're going to make a trade for a bomb right tackle...I can feel it.

Shouldn't have to trade for a bomb OT w/ all the studs getting taken in the draft...some talented vets are bound to be cut. But I get your drift SU...if the FO is serious about giving JC and the offense consistency we need to add a very talented OT to our roster.

Bingo. The problem is that there weren't any of these after the second round. Overall it was one of the weakest OL classes in years.

We could have drafted Oher instead of Orakpo. We could have not traded for Jason Taylor and used that pick to get Beatty or Loadholt (it's a bit late to rescind that trade, though). We could have traded back from #13 but apparently we tried but did not get good offers to do so.

That leaves us with doing our offensive line shopping elsewhere. I think that is now the plan. IMO it is not a bad one.
