I think being rusty is not an accurate term to use when describing Gibbs coaching tonight. He did not listen to Gregg Williams's suggestion not to call a timeout and he did. Running only Portis is a roadmap to self-destruction. It should have come back based on what Parcells is known for doing in the fourth quarter. How many tapes does one have to review to see the obvious?

to reply to your question on "why is Gibbs such a good coach?" Well let's start by saying that most coaches would have been out of the game in the 4th quarter. Not only did they come close but they improved 500% from last weeks game. Do you think that is just because of the players? Hmm..I don't think so. I think the Coaching Staff has a lot to do with it. The coaching staff didn't lose the game, the officials did! As you will see in my thread, 2 calls that caused a 14 point swing lost us the game. Not the Coaches, Not the Players and most definitely not the Fans. You will see how good a coach Gibbs is as the season progresses. They aren't even close to running their full offensive scheme yet. If you go back and look at game films from the old days, you will see a well organized team with alot of different plays. Don't worry, you will see the True Gibbs soon enough

Just be patient

I don't see why running only Portis was a bad thing. The guy is always a play away from taking it to the house, it's not like he was overworked or anything, he had 23 carries and 3 catches, the man can handle that kinda load. c'mon now.

I agree with Matty and I'm still hoarse from screaming at my television tonight. I'm seeing alot of overreaction. Here comes the broken record that no one knows as well as 'Skins fans: This is a brand new coaching staff for these players and it takes time to get the system up and running. Preseason is NOT enough for that and for all of you doubters out there, remember, the season has 17 weeks and 16 games for a reason, teams go up and teams go down. From what I saw tonight, this team is going up and I'm optimistic. That game was a close one. We have NOTHNG to be bitching about. Did our team play like shit tonight? Did they look ill prepared? Were there a lot of turnovers, wait were there ANY turnovers? No, we used some timeouts early because of, as was said earlier, a dumbass not lining up correctly and the play clock winding down. That shit happens to every team. The score was dissappointing, the play of the team was not. I'm not even going to point a finger at the refs. We had a chance at the end, that's all you can ask for in the NFL.

For those of you who don't understand the faith we all put in Gibbs, fine, then don't hold it against him either. Grade him as if he was just starting out in the league. I'd hope that if that were the case, everyone would be satisfied with the progress the group has made. Maybe some of you have not been around long enough to remember last year and what a poorly coached football team really looks like. I'm not saying we should be a bunch of homers, but I think we all should be a little more patient. Did we look like a superbowl team last year? Were we getting better before the ole bawl coach quit? If you thought this team was destined to go 17-0 with no bumps in the road, well, welcome back to reality. Now let's all get ready to support our team next week against Cleveland. If not, if you just want to throw in the towel three weeks into the season, go root for the Eagles, because we're Redskin fans and we're better than that.

Damn - I thought this was a Redskin fan site. Must have made a mistake and logged onto the cowgirls. That's what most of these posts sound like. I sure was not expecting to run into this horseshit tonight. It's even worse than tolerating those disgusting officials.

When they make the playoffs, you characters are going to be acting like you knew it all along. I've seen it too many times before.

I agree people are over reacting clock management was poor but we improved 100% over last week well 700% in terms of turnovers. Some people are expecting Gibbs to walk on water, win everything, and then bring the food for the tailgate party bread and fishes anyone?

Gibbs is going to have some ring rust and we are hurting through injuries and this is only week three. Hell this time last year Spurrier was looking like a real NFL coach and New England were spluttering loosing even to the likes of us. It is going to take time.

Positives are the O is showing life we were in the game until the gun and Gardner really stepped it up. If we can continually improve get to the bye beating the Browns and the Bears in the next three weeks then we end up at .500 with momentum down the strectch as we start tio get some players back and a chance to catch our breath. I am not saying we are a playoff team but we have a chance of anything this year...

Yes, what makes Joe Gibbs a great head coach, anyway? Sure, he won three Super Bowls, four NFC Championships, numerous division titles. Yes, yes, his winning percentage of .683 is the best in NFL history for coaches who have 125 games coached. But what I care about is his calling a time out I don't like. Where is Spurrier's phone number, anyway? What is with making a challenge that comes out the wrong way? I know it's not going to be popular, but I just have to get that off my chest.

Joe Gibbs is the recent history of the Washington Redskins. There will be no finer person in such a high position in almost any business. He took the Redskins to 4 Superbowls and won 3. How many trophies are at Redskins Park? George Allen or Lombardi put those there? He's in the Hall of Fame already. I could go on and on, but you gotta understand and believe cause ain't no other hope for this franchise. None. Gibbs is the same great man that he was then. He's a smart smart man. Not his fault that Sellers fucked up or that Portis or Brunell can't get it in from 1yd out. 5 sacks? Let's think about this... Last week 7 turnovers and lost by less than a TD and had plenty of chances to win the game. This week we only lost by 3 pts and were faced with terrible calls and an inability of the OL to keep Dallas' defense outta our backfield. Gibbs to blame for that? To understand Gibbs you must grasp the big picture. And since Gibbs has been gone and Snyder has taken over the 'big picture' has not really been considered. First of all, last night I was frustrated and felt like ranting. I am a patient person, and I can wait till the team gells. The problem is that Snyder has created an aura around this franchise in which impatience is necessary. I wouldnt mind so much if i knew the same players would be here next year so they had time to gell together, but you know Snyder is going to blow up the team in the offseason once again, and we will go through the same stuff again.
On the most basic level, I am just frustrated with the simple stuff, such as players not knowing what to do, and bad clock management. He isnt a new coach, but maybe you are right and its just the layoff, I hope so.

I'm not going to sit here and defend Gibbs, he's a coach that needs no defending. 3 SB rings is all I need to see to know we're in good hands.

Did he make some mistakes last night? Yeah he did, but he'll correct those as the season goes on. He's still getting back into the groove, and I'll gladly give him the benefit of the doubt.

Back in the offseason alot of us said he was going to need time to get back into the flow as far as his playcalling and game management.
