and to be honest any SB win by the Skins is awsome but my favorites were SBXVII because it was redemption for what Miami did to us the first time we played then in SBVII I think it was, and SBXXII was nice cause of Doug Williams. He pretty much took all the steam out of the Bronco's in one fleeting quarter. LOL. They were stunned.

I don't think we played against the Vikings in 91 and your thinking about 87 when DW was QB. It came down to the last play and old DG knocked away the game winning TD just as a vike was catching the ball. That was also a strike year and we played 3 or 4 games with the a bunch of walk on's. I think we also beat Dallas with those guys and dallas had like 9 starters who played through the strike.

Re: 1991 Redskins are on NFL network right NOW!!!

I think this franchise would be perceived a LOT differently if the 1991 season didn't happen. The Redskins have produced a bunch of great teams in the past, and some won championships, others did not, but the 91 team just crushed their competition for pretty much 19 straight games.

When you talk about the "unbeatable" teams of the last 25 years, it's the 85 Bears, the 07 Patriots, the 84 and 94 49ers, the 96 Packers, and the 91 Redskins. It was almost bizarre how quickly they fell, because the others in that group all faded off into obscurity. This team was picking in the top five two years later.

You are correct. The salary cap got introduced, Cooke had to put away his wallet, and the team had to be gutted. What a tragedy.

Luckily we made the most of it by picking Heath Shuler.

Plus the '91 team was older and full of vets, not set up well for a transition period.

Actually I think it had to do more with the team getting old. There just wasn't enough good young players in the pipeline to replace aging vets. Plus those first few years of free agency Casserly totally blew it on the guys he brought in. Tim Magee, Al Noga, Tom Carter, Desmond Howard ( that was Gibbs) John Friez, Stanley Richard, Tyronne Stowe, James Washington and so on. There was also a LB from Seattle that COULD NOT tackle anyone. Forgot his name. I can't believe I even remember some of those bums. lol.

You make a good argument but I don't think our arguments are mutually exclusive. Some vets got old, some had to go because of their price tags. And, no matter what, we did not replace losses with good young talent, as you describe.

Oops. By the way I'm referring to 87 SB team which is on NFL Network right now. I didn't even notice the thread was about 91.

Re: 1991 Redskins are on NFL network right NOW!!!

the 1991 skins have to be ranked as a top 5 team of ALL TIME. wasn't that the year they set the single season scoring record, as well?

No, that was the '83 team.

Amazingly they only have the '91 team ranked 14th out of all the SB winners. That always boggles my mind. That team was flat out dominant and they still hold the postseason record for point differential.
