I very much doubt you will be able to find replacement parts for your TV after 10 to 15 years let alone 30 years.

Note that this calculation is based on older Plasma models that were rated 30,000 hours.
See post #1. OP's plasma is now garbage after a short period of time, he's out $3000 and my "old-fashioned" 42" 1080p TV that cost 70% less is going strong and can he repaired rather than replaced IF something goes wrong. The whole reason for this thread is because the plasma did not last it's "expected" life.

I'll take the utter nonsense and the working TV with a few grand extra in my pocket.

Sometimes the latest technology is now always the best. Look at Windows.

Dude I bought the TV in 06 almost 05 and for the record my DLP crapped out 1 month out of warrenty and Samsung was cool enough to replace the entire engine in it. AND THE PLASMA CAN BE REPAIRED AFTER TALKING TO GMSCUDS GUY, are you thick headed?

If you don't have Panasonic you're not doing your homework. Honstly though Plasama TVs have hourly lifespan so if you've used it to its max nothing you can do about. The older the less lifespan. I would check the lifespan rating of your TV and call them back. Make sure you make a fuss and tell them your going to create a blog about how bad Philips brand TVs are and they'll get your attention.

I have heard a few folks throw around the Panasonic name on here but I know severely folks who have Panasonic and they have had problems as well. I honestly don't think any one builds a quality TV anymore.

yea, i would say buying a different brand name of a tv is like choosing ford over chevy or dodge over toyota. they all have their problems. it usually comes down to money, who has the best deal with the best warrenty. when i was shopping for tvs i was looking to get a samsung but i ended up getting a sharp aquos 46" lcd from sears, so far it's been great but i know there will come a time when something will go wrong with it. thats just the way it is.

Really? I only know two people who bought Panasonic and both TVs ended up being duds. Between me, my mom/stepdad, dad/stepmom, we've got a Sanyo, a few Sony's, and Sharp, and a few Vizio's, and they are all excellent. Based on my friend's experience, I'll avoid Panasonic like the plague. Come to think of it, I've never owned anything Panasonic that I've liked particularly.

Check consumer reports. Panasonic is consistently rated highest across just about any electonic category, from plasma TVs, to audio receivers, to whatever.

That's fine. I'm just going off of personal experience, as well as the two stinker TVs my friends bought recently. I haven't owned a lot of Panasonic stuff in my life, but I have had some audio equipment over the years. None of it was more memorable than any other brand. I'll take the Bose sound system I have now over anything else out there.

Hey I'm not saying Panasonic sucks or anything. I just may think twice before buying one based on friend's experiences. I'm sure they have plenty of quality products.

Just curious, is plasma that much better than any other flat tv? (i have 36 inch Sony CRT - works just peachy - only 6 years old though).

When it comes to color representation no one comes close (maybe OLED TVs but that will cost you $$$). Plasma TVs are also better able to represent blacks and whites more closely than LCD and CRT.

Re: F...TVs

I bought the TV in 2/2006 it was top of the line with the ambilight and all that crap, HD plasma and all that was still very expensive. Honestly start going on line and searching plasma tv's the life of these TV's for a lot of folks has been 4 or 5 years.
