1st of all do you actually think that Miami has a shot at beating Buffalo? They pretty much suck.
2nd, if you like Kiper then you haven't been watching the whole draft. He does have all of his facts lined up but he can not evaluate talent outside of the top 10 picks. |

Why wouldn't Miami have a shot? I mean its not like Buffalo's O is great. Miami has a shot every weekend for the same reason that the Redskins have a shot every weekend, both teams have very very very good Deffenses that keep them in the game.

You must be having a bad dream. Have you seen the Miami offense? Give Bledsoe the ball and I suspect he can beat them 10 out of 10. McGhaee is starting to this weekend.

Yeah Miami's offense does suck, in fact there offense is no worse than the redskins offense. But Bledsoe wont be throwing against Miami's offense, Miami's Deffense is ranked #2 over all. When was the last time Bledsoe lit any deffense up?

* Draft Order Accurate Through Week 5 * 1. Dallas Cowboys (f/BUF): Antrel Rolle, CB, Miami (FL) The Cowboys took a lot of heat for passing on Steven Jackson and trading out of round one, and that criticism is intensifying with Eddie George really struggling and Julius Jones injured. However, if the Bills continue their losing ways and Dallas ends up with a top five pick out of the deal all will likely be forgiven. A major weakness on the Cowboys defense heading into the season appeared to be at cornerback, with the now injured Pete Hunter penciled in to start opposite Terence Newman. Hunter may still develop into a solid pro, but Rolle has the ability to be a shutdown corner in the NFL and would give Dallas the best young secondary in the NFL, hands down. An added plus is that Rolle will be ready to play and contribute in the NFL from day one. Dallas could also use some help up front at defensive tackle next to La'Roi Glover so Rodrique Wright would get a lot of consideration as well, but in the end I think the chance to bring in another top young defensive back would be too enticing for the Cowboys to pass up. Also keep in mind that they will have their own 1st round pick later on as well to potentially nab some help in another area. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Miami Dolphins: Matt Leinart, QB, U.S.C. Nothing sums up the Dolphins season to this point better than Murphy's Law, which says whatever can go wrong will go wrong. From Ricky Williams quitting on the team on the eve of training camp to David Boston's season ending injury to all the hurricanes that have been affecting their games, this season has been a mess for Miami. The one good thing about having a terrible season however is that you get a high draft pick and the Dolphins will have to make it count. Right now I think their top two needs are at running back and quarterback, but this is too high for a runner and when you have a chance to bring in a potential franchise signal caller you have to take it, especially with the way A.J. Feely has played this year. I know they invested a 2nd round pick in trading for him, but anyone who has seen Feely play this year has to know that he isn't the long-term answer. There is some debate as to whether Leinart is really this good or if it is mainly due to the strong supporting cast he has around him, but right now he has the looks of a very high draft pick should he leave the Trojans after his junior season. The offensive line is also a possibility here, but the team does have some youngsters and talent to work with so I think a signal caller would be the pick at #1 overall. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. San Francisco 49'ers: Aaron Rodgers, QB, California The Niners have not looked good this season and the offense has been particularly inefficient, even getting shutout for the first time since 1977 in a week three loss to Seattle. I think the problems start at the quarterback position, where the team has only three former 7th round draft picks in Tim Rattay, Ken Dorsey and Cody Pickett on the roster. I think all three could eventually develop into solid backups in the NFL, but expecting them to win as starters is really pushing it. Aaron Rodgers is a guy who is just beginning to garner national attention he deserves but I have him rated as the #1 quarterback available should he enter the draft after his junior season with Cal. Rodgers is the latest protoge' of noted quarterback guru Jeff Tedford and while he doesn't have ideal size that is about the only knock on him. With a great arm, perfect mechanics, fine mobility and the ability to throw on the move, Rodgers is the complete package and would be a perfect fit for the offense the Niners are running these days. In my opinion, San Francisco would be out of their minds to look anywhere other than the quarterback position in round one if either Rodgers or Leinart are still available when they are on the clock. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Mike Williams, WR, U.S.C. Nobody really saw this bad of a season on the horizon for the Bucs, but with all the changes they made in personnel combined with losing the heart and soul of their defense in Warren Sapp and John Lynch it does seem to add up. Last year as the draft approached word was that Tampa Bay had their sights set on Mike Williams if he fell to them before he was declared ineligible. Instead they took another wideout in Michael Clayton, who looks to be a very good young player, but a need still exists at the position in my mind. Keenan McCardell is still holding out in a bitter contract dispute, Tim Brown is near the end of his fantastic career while Joey Galloway and Joe Jurevicius have both proven to be very injury prone the last couple of years. Williams is sitting out this season after being ruled ineligible by the NCAA but that should give him plenty of time to prepare for workouts and the draft and he is still easily the top wideout prospect available. In fact, not being included in the '04 Draft may have been a blessing in disguise because he figures to go much higher in '05. Running back is also a major need with Charlie Garner getting up there in years, but this is too high for either Cedric Benson or Cadillac Williams, although they could be possible targets later in round one. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Washington Redskins: Mathias Kiwanuka, DE, Boston College The new Joe Gibbs era is off to a rough start and if things keep going like they are a high draft pick is not out of the question. Washington has a couple of solid defensive ends in Renaldo Wynn and Phillip Daniels, but they lack that true difference maker as a pass rusher. That is where the man they call "Kiwi" comes in. An imposing physical specimen at 6-7 and 261 pounds, Kiwanuka still needs to add some bulk to hold up better against the run but with 4.6 speed and tremendous athleticism he is a terror coming off the edge as a pass rusher and has seemingly unlimited upside. There is no denying that Kiwanuka is far from being a finished product but he simply has too much potential not to be a high to mid first round pick should he choose to come out after his junior season with Boston College. This guy could end up being one of the most feared pass rushers in the NFL for the next decade and would finally give the Redskins the premier defensive end they have been searching for. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. Arizona Cardinals: Cedric Benson, RB, Texas Any team depending on 35-year old Emmitt Smith to carry the load should certainly be in the market for a stud running back. Granted Marcell Shipp is still on the roster as well, but he was demoted to second-string even before getting injured. Benson is one of the most NFL ready players in all of college football and there are numerous pro teams who would love to have him toting the rock for them right now. Benson surprised many by returning to Texas and spurning the 2004 NFL Draft, but that decision appears to be paying off as he is having an amazing senior campaign while increasing his draft stock and he just may even win the Heisman Trophy. The Cardinals also really need help along the defensive line, either at end or tackle, so you have to keep an eye on that as well. The bottom line here is Denny Green ignored the defense in favor of the offense for years in Minnesota and Cedric Benson is such an ideal fit for his one-back offense this just seems to be a match made in football heaven. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Green Bay Packers: Rodrique Wright, DT, Texas If you have seen the Packers play this year you know that their defense is in dire need of impact players, either along the line or in the secondary. Wright has been a dominating performer for the Longhorns since his true freshman campaign and would be a very highly regarded prospect should he leave school after his junior year. Also, after a long, bitter contract dispute the Packers finally relented and traded disgruntled cornerback Mike McKenzie to New Orleans so a corner like Antrel Rolle or Corey Webster are possibilities as well. How exactly trading your best cover corner and one of your top three defensive players on a team already below average on that side of the ball for a 2nd round pick and a backup quarterback helps make them better is beyond me to be honest. The final option would be defensive end, but I think Wright presents way too much value to pass on at this point in round one. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8. Carolina Panthers: Alex Barron, OT, Florida St. After an surprising season in which they lost to New England in the Super Bowl the Panthers took a major step backwards along the offensive line, losing Todd Steussie and Jeno James in free agency and Kevin Donnalley to retirement. The results have been mixed at best so bringing in some talent up front sure wouldn't hurt, especially if they have the opportunity to bring in the top offensive tackle in the draft. Barron is a potential franchise left tackle and by brining him in they could move Jordan Gross back to the right side, where he excelled as a rookie in 2003. Barron is a little raw and doesn't really have a dominating demeanor on the field, but he is an amazing athlete with good hands and balance who reminds many of Walter Jones, a guy who developed into one of the premier left tackles in the league. Carolina's other top need is at safety, but this is way too early for anyone at that position. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9. Chicago Bears: Mark Clayton, WR, Oklahoma In a rare player-for-player trade the Bears addressed one need at defensive end with Adewale Ogunleye but created another by sending Marty Booker to Miami. David Terrell has finally shown signs of living up to his potential, but youngsters Justin Gage, Bobby Wade and Bernard Berrian are all very questionable at this point. Lovie Smith is a defensive guy but he saw how helpful having a prolific offense could be during his stay in St. Louis so I think bringing in a playmaker like Clayton would be a good decision in round one. Clayton doesn't have ideal size but brings just about everything else you look for to the table, including good hands, great quickness and speed as well as the potential to score everytime he gets his hands on the ball. If by some chance Alex Barron is still around he would be the choice since having Qasim Mitchell as your starting left tackle isn't an ideal situation, but with him long gone I think a wide receiver is a no-brainer for the Chicago Bears. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10. Kansas City Chiefs: Derrick Johnson, OLB, Texas Despite having one of the worst defenses in the NFL in 2003 the Chiefs made virtually no changes in personnel on that side of the ball, instead only brining in a new defensive coordinator in Gunter Cunningham. Big mistake. You can have the best jockey in the world but if you're riding a donkey you aren't going to win the Kentucky Derby. Simply put, Kansas City just doesn't have the horses on defense. That would all change with this pick though because Johnson is exactly the type of impact defensive player you can build a team around and they should consider themselves extremely fortunate if he was still on the board when they pick. The other option here of course is a wide receiver like Mark Clayton or Braylon Edwards because Eddie Kennison and Johnnie Morton are average at best, but if the team doesn't do something to upgrade the defense fans just may begin to mutiny. In fact, the theme of the Kansas City Chief's 2005 offseason should be titled "Defense, Defense, Defense!" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11. Cincinnati Bengals: Corey Webster, CB, L.S.U. The past couple of offseasons the Bengals have tried to upgrade the cornerback position, bringing in guys like Deltha O'Neal via trade, Tory James through free agency and Keiwan Ratliff courtesy of the draft. Still, they lack that difference maker in the secondary so landing Webster here would be a good fit for them. Webster actually began his career at Louisiana St. as a wide receiver and is an amazing athlete with a nose for the ball. Most feel that Webster is just a notch below Antrel Rolle so to land him here would be a solid value pick for the Bengals. Cincinnati could also use some help on the interior of the defensive line so Anttaj Hawthorne would be an excellent fit for them as well. Either way the Bengals and Marvin Lewis should be able to land an impact defender in the top ten overall picks, adding to their stable of exciting young talent. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12. Tennessee Titans: Anttaj Hawthorne, DT, Wisconsin To say that the Titans defensive line took a hit this past offseason would be a major understatement. They attempted to offset the losses of Jevon Kearse and Robaire Smith by moving Kevin Carter from end inside to tackle and using numerous draft picks on the likes of Travis LaBoy, Antwan Odom, and Randy Starks but they sure could use another difference maker up front. Hawthorne is someone who needs to be double-teamed on almost every play or he will use his strength and athleticism to wreak havoc in opponent's backfields. This would allow them to move Kevin Carter back outside to end along with Carlos Hall and give them a very nice front four with Hawthorne and Albert Haynesworth in the middle. Who knows if the Titans will be choosing this high when all is said and done but if they are in the top 10-15 overall picks Hawthorne would be an excellent fit for them. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 13. New Orleans Saints: Ahmad Brooks, OLB, Virginia After years of living in denial the Saints finally realized that Ashley Ambrose and Fred Thomas were not great starting NFL cornerback and addressed their top need by trading for Mike McKenzie. Next on the agenda is finding a top outside linebacker to put alongside last years 2nd round pick Courtney Watson, who looks to have been a steal in round two of the '04 Draft. Brooks is only a true sophomore eligibility-wise but could enter the 2005 Draft because he spent a year at a prep school, thus making it three years since his high school class graduated. A physical freak at 6-4 and 250 pounds with 4.62 speed, Brooks is a playmaker in every sense of the word and to give you an idea of how athletic he is, the Cavaliers actually had him returning kicks! His best fit might be as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense, but I don't see any reason why a player with his physical capabilities couldn't develop into a dominator in any scheme. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 14. Oakland Raiders: Cadillac Williams, RB, Auburn After seeing Charlie Garner leave as a free agent there was some question as to whether Ty Wheatley could handle the starting job and while he has been solid there is no doubt room for an upgrade. Enter Carnell, or as most know him, "Cadillac". It is a testament to this guys talent that someone with only decent size and speed as well as some durability questions could still be widely considered a lock for the first round, but Williams is that exceptional. Cadillac makes up for his lack of ideal measurables with amazing vision and quickness as well as being very tough to tackle due to his great leg strength, balance and shiftiness. The Raiders could also use a top outside linebacker and Ahmad Brooks would be very tough to pass on here, but in the end this is exactly the type of pick that could rejuvenate the Oakland offense. Plus, we all know how Al Davis loves to make a splash in personnel moves and on Draft Day and this guy is one of the biggest names in al of college football. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 15. Houston Texans: Marcus Spears, DE, L.S.U. Houston has a couple of good defensive lineman in Gary Walker and Robaire Smith, but Seth Payne is coming off a major injury and isn't getting any younger. Spears seriously considered coming out after his junior season before ultimately deciding to return to L.S.U. for his senior campaign. A top tight end prospect coming out of high school, Spears is an amazing athlete with excellent size for the defensive end position. The main knock on him is that he doesn't really post the eye-popping sack totals you look for, but he would be an ideal fit at end in a 3-4 defensive scheme like the Texans use. With this pick Robaire Smith would likely move inside to play nose tackle with Spears and Walker outside at end, and that would really upgrade the overall talent level of their line. Houston is collecting a nice young array of talent through the draft and appear to be set for the most part on the offensive side of the ball, but another option for them could be the secondary, either at cornerback or safety. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 16. Cleveland Browns: Jammal Brown, OT, Oklahoma The Browns have been trying to find a left tackle for years and really wanted to move up for a shot at Robert Gallery in last years draft but just couldn't get it done. I am sure Butch Davis would have been salivating at the chance to draft Eric Winston from his old Hurricane stomping grounds, but after a season ending knee injury Winston will most likely return to Miami for his senior season. Instead they opt for Brown, a tremendous pass blocker who has been doing a great job for the Sooners up front, anchoring one of the best offensive lines in the entire country. He could stand to gain some weight, but Brown is a very solid mid-1st rounder right now and is just what the doctor ordered in Cleveland. If they don't go offensive line the Browns will likely turn their attention to the other side of the ball since they also have needs at defensive end and linebacker as well as in the secondary. There is no doubt that offensive tackle is their top priority though so I am sure they would be thrilled to find Brown still available. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SportingNews.com has put together an awesome draft package. It's exactly the kind of information NFL fans crave in the off-season. Who will teams pick and why? Over 1,000 pages of content covering 500 players. Awesome stuff. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 17. Dallas Cowboys: Orien Harris, DT, Miami (FL) The Cowboys need help inside at defensive tackle next to La'Roi Glover and this guy might just be the next in a long line of great defensive tackles the Hurricanes have produced, following in the footsteps of past stars such as Cortez Kennedy, Warren Sapp, Damione Lewis and Vince Wilfork. Harris is still developing and just getting a shot to play full-time as a junior, but he has the size, speed, athleticism and quickness to be a star at the next level and would likely go very high should he choose to forego the remainder of his college eligibility. Depending on what they do with their other first rounder cornerback could be a possibility as well, as could a big linebacker like Ahmad Brooks, who would be a better fit than Dat Nguyen or Dexter Coakley for the defense Bill Parcells likes to run. At this point I don't think you can rule out a running back like Cedric Benson, Cadillac Williams or Ronnie Brown either, especially when you consider that Julius Jones has already been in the Tuna's doghouse and missed a lot of time with injuries. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18. Minnesota Vikings: Elton Brown, OG, Virginia Leading the way for their high-powered offense is one of the better offensive lines in the league, but David Dixon is nearing retirement and there is little depth beyond the starting five. Elton Brown could project to either guard or tackle at the next level and he has really improved his draft stock by becoming a better run blocker while leading the way for Wali Lundy with the Cavs. At the very least Brown would provide excellent depth for the Vikings and he could very well end up replacing David Dixon at right guard. Minnesota could also look to bolster their cornerback depth behind Antoine Winfield and Brian Williams or even consider an outside linebacker to replace the disappointing and injury-prone Chris Claiborne. One thing is for sure; the Vikings are a team that doesn't have a lot of immediate needs among their starting positions which should give them a lot of leeway come Draft Day '05. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19. Jacksonville Jaguars: Erasmus James, DE, Wisconsin The Jaguars surprised many when they cut both their starting defensive ends in Tony Brackens and Hugh Douglas during training camp. An injury to Paul Spicer has left the team with only the likes of Lionel Barnes, Rob Meier, Bobby McCray and Brandon Green at the top of the depth chart. Needless to say this is a position that must be upgraded next offseason. James missed all of 2003 with an injury but has come back in a big way as a senior, dominating opponents and developing into one of the top sack artists in the country. In fact, this guy has seen his stock rise more than anyone else in the country this season. If not defensive end I think the other area Jacksonville will look to address is cornerback since they mostly have average players and journeymen beyond Rashean Mathis, but there is no doubt in my mind that they have to go defensive end here as long as there is any type of value still on the board. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20. Baltimore Ravens: Braylon Edwards, WR, Michigan It seems as though the Ravens have been looking for a premier wideout for years but to this point haven't had much success, especially with Travis Taylor failing to live up to his lofty draft status. They pretty much admitted that a top-flight receiver was a top priority when they pursued and actually traded for Terrell Owens before he eventually wound up in Philly. Edwards has everything you look for in a #1 wide receiver at the pro level and has had a great senior campaign, but his tendency to drop some balls that he should catch may lead to him falling a little come draft day. One other possibility here is a cornerback like Marlin Jackson since Deion Sanders likely won't be around for long, but I would be shocked if they passed on a top wide receiver prospect, especially if Clayton or Edwards are available. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 21. St. Louis Rams: Andrew Whitworth, OT, L.S.U. Coming into the 2004 season the Rams looked to be set at tackle, with one of the best in the business in Orlando Pace on the left side and Kyle Turley on the right. That has all changed now with Turley's back injury that could very well end his career. Whitworth is widely regarded as the next best junior offensive lineman and while he isn't a finished product and some question whether or not he can play the left side in the pros (which won't be a factor in St. Louis) he does have a high upside that should land him a spot in round one should he leave after his junior season. Another option for St. Louis might be a defensive end as a replacement for Grant Wistrom. If that is the case look for names like David Pollack, Marcus Spears, Erasmus James and Dan Cody to be mentioned and considered. In the end though I think Whitworth is just too good of a fit to pass up with Turley's future playing career in question. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 22. San Diego Chargers: Chris Henry, WR, West Virginia With a wide receiver corps consisting of Reche Caldwell, Eric Parker, Tim Dwight and Kassim Osgood it is plain to see that the Chargers really need to bring in some talent there. Henry is a major big play threat and has the type of size / speed ratio you look for in a star wideout. He is still very raw and will need to be developed, but his potential is unlimited and with Mike Williams, Mark Clayton and Braylon Edwards all off the board he is the next best option. San Diego can afford to be patient with Henry and allow him to mature along with Philip Rivers and in a few years they just might have themselves a major steal. The Chargers still have a lot of needs though and could also look at an offensive tackle or linebacker here as well, but in my opinion brining in an offensive playmaker to take some pressure off of LaDainian Tomlinson should without a doubt be priority number one. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 23. Seattle Seahawks: Odell Thurman, ILB, Georgia The Seahawks defense has been much improved in 2004 but there are still some areas where they can improve, most notably at inside linebacker. In fact, leading up to the 2004 Draft it was widely known that Seattle was looking to upgrade the middle of their defense and they did just that in the first two rounds with Marcus Tubbs at defensive tackle and Michael Boulware at safety. What they didn't do was bring in a middle linebacker so that should be a priority next offseason with only Orlando Huff, Niko Koutouvides and Solomon Bates at that position right now. Thurman missed the first four games of the season due to a suspension but he is one of the top linebacker prospects in college football and would be a nice choice here in late round one. Don't rule out Lance Mitchell of Oklahoma here either though because he is a guy who was well on his way to a spot in the middle of round one last year before a knee injury ended his season. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 24. Detroit Lions: David Pollack, DE, Georgia The Lions and Matt Millen have done a terrific job upgrading the talent on the offensive side of the ball, using recent first round picks on Joey Harrington, Charles Rogers, Roy Williams and Kevin Jones. Now however they must turn their attention to the defense and the most glaring need on that side of the ball appears to be at end. James Hall has really come on this season as a pass rusher but Robert Porcher is nearing the end of his career and Cory Redding might be best suited to play inside at tackle, thus creating an opening on the other side. Pollack has a motor that never stops and he has been one of the most dominant defensive players in the country for the past three seasons. There is some debate as to where he projects draft-wise because he lacks ideal physical tools and measurables, but you can't ignore the production. Some feel he will be a high first rounder while some feel he could drop to the end of the first frame and I think the reality falls somewhere in the middle. One thing is for sure, Matt Millen is sure to love this guy's intensity and drive. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 25. Denver Broncos: Shaun Cody, DT, U.S.C. The interior of the Broncos defensive line is severely lacking with only Mario Fatafehi and Monsanto Pope along with aging veterans Ellis Johnson and Luther Ellis inside. What Denver really needs is a playmaker there and Cody certainly would fit that bill. While he is a bit small for a tackle and some project him as an end, there is no questioning Cody's explosiveness, speed and pass rush ability. While I am not as high on him as most, the general consensus is that he is a solid mid to late first round prospect and he would be a good fit for the Broncos. Denver could also be looking to bolster their linebacking corps here and would maybe even consider a stud running back if neither Quentin Griffin nor Tatum Bell assert themselves down the stretch. I have been saying that Denver needs a top defensive tackle for a few years now though and I have a feeling that this year they may finally take my advice. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 26. Atlanta Falcons: Michael Munoz, OT, Tennessee After Bob Whitfield's sudden decline and release the Falcons were left with Kevin Shaffer starting at left tackle. Not exactly an ideal situation. The son of Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz, one of the best offensive tackles to ever play the game, there is no questioning this guy's bloodlines. Michael battled injuries early in his career and bounced back, but the knock on him prior to his senior year was his lack of power and a go for the throat mentality on the field. This year though he has gotten much better in this area, leading the way for a very successful run game and that may push him into consideration for round one. Munoz has good size, great technique while also being a team leader and excellent character guy. There are still concerns about his athleticism and strength, but overall he looks to be a solid but unspectacular prospect. He may never be great, but he should be good. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 27. San Diego Chargers (f/NYG): Chad Greenway, OLB, Iowa What San Diego really needs is a top offensive tackle, but with all the top guys off the board they opt to address another need area rather than reach for a lesser talent. Greenway has been compared to Brian Urlacher and with good reason because both share the same type of speed, athleticism and intensity. With the Chargers now running a 3-4 defense this guy would be an ideal fit outside and allow them to shuffle the others to get the best four on the field. If Greenway does decide to enter the draft after his junior year there is a chance Greenway could come off the board a lot higher than this even. A tackle like Michael Munoz would garner strong consideration if he fell to them as well, but with him off the board I think they address the defense with a potential impact player in Greenway. A couple of other linebackers who could factor into the equation here as well are Kevin Burnett and Darryl Blackstock. San Diego could also use some help at nose tackle with Jamal Williams history of injuries. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 28. Pittsburgh Steelers: Marlin Jackson, CB, Michigan The Steelers have a couple of solid veterans in Chad Scott and Deshea Townsend as well as a couple of raw youngsters in Ricardo Colclough and Ike Taylor, but what they really lack is that stud, shutdown cover corner. Marlin Jackson was sensational early in his career but struggled as a junior when he was moved to safety. Now a senior, Jackson is back outside at corner and looking to once again establish himself as a premier pro prospect. Pittsburgh may also be in the market for a big wide receiver should Plaxico Burress leave as a free agent, a safety as an upgrade over Chris Hope and they could even use some help along the offensive line, if for nothing else other than depth. In the end though Jackson is the best player available and his selection would go a long way towards solidifying a talented young secondary. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 29. Indianapolis Colts: Justin Miller, CB, Clemson It is painfully obvious that that Colts need help at the cornerback position. Donald Strickland could develop into a player for them but Nick Harper is a backup at best and there is very little in terms of quality depth. Justin Miller is a playmaker in the secondary and a threat to go all the way every time he touches the ball, rather it be after an interception or returning a kick. Tony Dungy's defense thrives when the secondary is getting turnovers and Miller may have the best nose for the ball of any corner in this draft. Linebacker may also be an area of need since Rob Morris isn't a very good fit for their scheme inside and depending on how Cato June develops outside. The Indy offense is second to none, but it is high time they spend some premium picks and money addressing the defensive side of the ball if they want to take that next step to the Super Bowl. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 30. New York Jets: Thomas Davis, S, Georgia The Jets are building a good young defense, but the one area where they are still lacking is in the secondary at both cornerback as well as safety. With all the top corners off the board they turn their attention to safety and nab Davis. A tremendous athlete who plays like a linebacker but has the speed to cover in the secondary, Davis is seemingly always around the ball making plays and giving 100%. He is still a little raw and might not be a fit in every scheme, but Davis would be a great value pick if he were still around this late in the first frame. Depending on how things go in the offseason New York may lose either Shaun Ellis or John Abraham in free agency so a defensive end could also be a consideration here as well, as could a tight end like Heath Miller if Anthony Becht heads elsewhere, but in my view the secondary is the top concern at this point. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 31. New England Patriots: Donte Nicholson, S, Oklahoma One thing I hate is a team thinking that they don't have needs and can just afford to take the best player available (i.e. Steven Jackson to the Rams and Chris Perry to the Bengals in '04). However, if there is one team in the NFL that can legitimately do this it is New England, and even the Pats have some needs. Rodney Harrison is getting up there in years and Eugene Wilson may eventually move back outside to cornerback, so a top young safety would be an excellent choice. Nicholson, who many call a poor man's Roy Williams, is having a great senior season and has really seen his stock rise to the point where he could slip into round one now. A big guy who likes to hit, Nicholson also has the speed and athleticism to excel in coverage, making him exactly the type of hybrid safety / outside linebacker that is in vogue these days. New England could also upgrade along the offensive line at guard so guys like Elton Brown or C.J. Brooks could garner consideration and their linebackers are getting up their in years so it may be time to bring in some youngsters to develop there as well. In reality this is like picking out a birthday present for Bill Gates. What do you get a team that has everything? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 32. Philadelphia Eagles: Ronnie Brown, RB, Auburn After losing Duce Staley to Pittsburgh in free agency the Eagles still thought they were set at the running back position, but with another injury to Correll Buckhalter they are left with only the diminutive Brian Westbrook and could be one more big hit away from seeing their season go down the drain. Needless to say they need to bring in some depth at running back and Brown is a guy who has really seen his stock soar as a senior. Brown doesn't get the attention he deserves, playing second fiddle to Carnell Williams, but in the end he could very well end up being a better pro than Cadillac. With excellent size, speed, and hands, Brown has everything you look for in a franchise running back and if he played for just about any other team in the country you might be talking about a Heisman candidate and elite draft prospect. Philly could also use some help at linebacker so don't rule out guys like Chad Greenway, Kevin Burnett, Darryl Blackstock, Odell Thurman or Lance Mitchell either.
