Re: Can a tax increase for California be far behind?
Cali will legalize/tax weed in the next year or two and find it's coffers in far better shape.
All by itself Cali is like the 7th or 8th largest economy in the world. It pays in waaaayyyy more to the federal system than it gets back in federal programs, meaning all the states like mine (and yours probably) that receive way more federal dollars than we contribute owe Cali a great big thank you for building/maintaining our infrastructure, water systems, etc etc. If there's a state to pick on for its policies/regulations Texas is the worst. For years a big part of my job was basically consumer protection and damn near every financial, medical, and insurance scam we saw comes straight out of Texas. They deliberately do not enforce consumer protection laws and refuse to prosecute fraud so totally fraudulent companies continue to operate in the state, often times just renaming themselves or moving PO Boxes when inquiries started to roll in. It got to the point I warned every client I sat across from to never purchase a financial, medical or insurance product from Texas.
