Re: Dream Draft

No I don't like that scenario particularly well. We relied on elite LT talent for years w/ Chris. He's gone and there's no reason to pretend we don't need another guy like him. 4th overall almost guarantees us the best LT in the draft this year. Take it. Draft a legit RT w/ the 2nd rd pick and we're literally 50% better on offense. Shanny will draft a RB too and make him a star.

As to Jarmon I think he's about 270 and when you look at his frame well there's room there for growth. He could easily bulk up 10 lbs in muscle and be a legit DE in a 3-4. I think this is something to hope for. With the massive infusion of talent our offense needs just to get back into the middle of the pack any additions to defense seem unlikely.

Trade our first round pick and 7th round pick to San Fransisco for their 13th and 16th overall picks

(1)13th Sam Bradford QB
(1)16th Charles Brown OT
(2)36th Terrance Cody NT
(4) Matt Tennant OC
(5) Adam Ulatkoski OT
(Compensatory pick) Mitch Petrus OG

Re: Dream Draft

Most Offensive HC's want to bring in their own guy. I wouldnt be surprised to see Shanny bring in a bradford and draft a OT in the snd or go after a FA OT.
he usually likes the mobile linemen so i guess Okung would be out of the picture.
I would NOT have a problem with
Berry
McClain
Suh
Haden
Okung
with the 4th selection.

I wouldn't say that

Pass Protection -1 -Plays with great balance, mirror-and-slide ability and awareness in pass pro. Feet are a notch below elite. Gets set quickly in pass pro. He is capable of consistently getting set wide and shutting down the perimeter versus speed rushers. Shows long arms and big hands, which he uses well to keep separation and sustain.

Run Blocking -2 -Takes solid angles and shows good initial pop. Has long arms and a strong upper body to control defenders. He's big and shows above-average strength as a drive blocker. Consistently reaches the second level on time and shows the ability to hit the moving target. Only knock is that he occasionally struggles to lock on and sustain, which can be rectified with better hand usage in most instances.

Re: Dream Draft

Good points everyone. I like the McCluster pick, I was torn between him and Gehart.

I know the Patriots won't do that Trade unless someone they Really want falls to 4. G. McCoy maybe, sine Woilfolk is probably leaving??? Who knows.

I think I addressed everything though. 3 Offensive lineman!!! A QB and a RB in the top 4 rounds, I would love for that to Happen.

I'm completely against Bradford/Clausen at number 4. I really want Suh or Okung if we stay. Either will be a centerpiece for a long time.

Re: Dream Draft

Does anyone honestly think that Okung can be a "zone blocking" tackle? I have not seen enough film on him to be certain. I am asking a legitimate question "are his feet quick enough and is he quick enough overall"?

Re: Dream Draft

I'm going to throw this out there....why does everyone seem to act like we have no RB's? Portis old and injury prone, most likely gone. Betts and Rock are both just as old as Portis so if Shanahan is looking to get younger and faster then most likely they are gone as well.

Believe it or not Ganther is a good runner. He handled himself rather well. He was able to to make people miss him one on one and was able to be the power back we needed when it came time. Did you guys not see the same games in which he ran into a hole and would come out the back side for more yardage? or be overwhelmed by defensive players only to move the pocket. I think in Shanahan's system with a more updated blocking scheme and better, younger, healthier OL, I can see Ganther doing well.

Shanahan likes Alridge. I don't care how much you guys don't, or how much you guys think he's gone....Shanahan raved about him to Vinny. We have picked him up, cut him, picked him up, cut him, and picked him up. The last time I'm betting it was at the behest of Shanahan. I'm positive he will have a roll for that little speedy RB. Either taking it to the edge or simply getting him the ball in the open field beyond the DL and LB's.

If we can trade back and get more picks and still get the people we want I'm all for it. I do like the OP's scenario other then the RB pick. I might have gone either another OL, 3-4 LB, or DL (NT if possible).

Re: Dream Draft

Draft Report on Okung (from WalterFootball.com):

2010 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Russell Okung
Russell Okung, 6-5/300
Offensive Tackle
Oklahoma State

Russell Okung Scouting Report
By Matt McGuire

Strengths:
Very good height with long arms
Thick, strong lower body
Extremely high level of athleticism
Patient pass protector; does not overextend
Great lateral agility
Quick kick step
Consistent footwork
Nice ankle/knee flexion
Surprisingly physical run blocker
Light on his feet
Highly experienced since true freshman year
Very durable - 34 straight starts
Understands angles
Recognizes stunts and blitz assignments
Gets to second level
Leader
Tremendous upside
Week 1 starting left tackle
Franchise player
Potential No. 1 overall pick

Weaknesses:
Occasionally gets too high in his stance
Needs to gain a little more upper body strength
Sometimes loses focus (bored with competition?)
Can be inconsistent with leverage
Room to improve hand punch
Must redirect at a higher level in NFL

Summary: I noticed Okung last summer when watching tape on Brandon Pettigrew and I pegged him as a potential star in 2008. He has all the makings of a Pro Bowl-caliber left tackle and has the upside to potentially warrant a No. 1 overall pick. If he can hone his technique slightly over the summer, I would be shocked to see him fall out of the first five picks next year barring injury. Okung has practically everything you look for in an offensive tackle. Last name pronounced OH-KOONG.

Jarmon weighs 274, they said the main thing he needed to do was bulk up, because his bench press was very weak. that says to me that he could easily get to the 280s. I think hr could be a good fit as a DE in a 3-4.

Re: Dream Draft

I don't see the Pats as a possible trade partner because they are happy stockpiling late first and multiple 2nd round picks. They traditionally trade down, not up.

I would never make that trade if I was the 49ers FO.. I doubt that Bradford goes to 13 but he could be the next Quinn

How the eff does a guy playing professional sports, weighing 270, have a weak bench press?! I've worked out in gyms for 15 years now pretty consistently and observed the weaker guys be able to bulk up and build strength w/ discipline and hard work.

We trade 1800 points for 1680 so the Patriots get a deal and we get what we want. 4 Picks in the top 48!!!

22nd we take: Brian Bulaga*OT6'6"312Iowa
37th we Take: Colt McCoyQB6'3"205Texas
42nd we take: Toby GerhartRB6'1"235Stanford
48th we take: Jason FoxOT6'7"314Miami
111 we take: Sergio RenderOG6'3"320Virginia Tech

Thought? Comments?
You had me until I seen Gerhart, you got be kidding, this guy is some RB Stud Blocker, he is no way a franchise running back, to take him that high, he be there in the 5th and 6th round for peanuts........ This hard on you guys have for Gerhart is down right funny....... There are at least 6 other backs, in the draft that are better than him, I'm sure Shanahan, want pick him anytime soon. Gerhart, thats fu#king funny.

just a comment on how he was one of the handful invited to the actual ceremony and kept getting skipped over when he was being mentioned as a top 5-10 pick, not really anything on what he's done since
