I'm fat and worthless and they don't pay me anywhere near $25 mil.

Coming from someone who has given up his own time to help others and has helped educate unknown numbers of young people....I find this statement hard to accept. :smashfrea

Maybe Al could get Zorn to teach JR the position.

Russell is a complete waste of a roster spot. He's lazy, he's fat and he doesn't want to put the time in. Davis might as well cut the cord now and go w/ Gradkowski. Things are not going to change there until Davis passes.

This is why there should be a rookie cap. Unproven college players get elite NFL money (which is guaranteed) and they don't have to work for it. Yeah they have to show up but there's no real incentive beyond wanting to win to better themselves. Most, if not all of these rookies apply themselves and try to improve but Russell is just collecting a check.

Al Davis won't get anyone better than Cable who will want to coach this squad so he might as well keep the guy. I'm sure Raiders fans pray for Al Davis to die. Thank God I'm not a Raiders fan.

Re: Al Davis insisting on keeping Russell; what about Tom Cable?

This post is putting me to sleep zzzzzzzz. As a Redskin fan I'm not concerning myself with the Raiders or any other franchise that is terrrible right now. Our coaches have so much work to do on our awful team , we as fans should be truly concerned whats happening with the Redskins. We have our own busts to worry about. Since we have the 4th pick and if we do decide to pick a QB this will increase the chance of this pick to be a bust. I live in California and the Raiders fans all think JR suck but , i dont care cause its their problem.

What is amazing is that so many guys who get the big bucks play with passion. Really, with the amounts being handed out to some of these guys (rookies and UFA's), skill level is almost irrelevant to future production. If you're set for life, do you have the desire to go through grueling practices and risk potential injury and still play to the best of your abilities?

JaMarcus apparrently answered the above question "No".
This is precisely the problem with most of his generation. How about playing because you love the game and it's your passion and you want to contribute something positive with what you were blessed to posess? Your compensation in dollars should simply be a byproduct of doing something for the love of doing it, not the REASON why you do it. Nothing like doing something with your eye on the RESULT. Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans. Thank you Mr. Lennon.

Al Davis should line up all the available coaches hes interested in and make them run the 40 and hire the one with the fastest time.

yeah i hear you there...and thats why i love players like Farve (even tho i HATED him for the waffling shit but i know why he did it so he didnt have to go thru mini camps and training camp) but when you see him play every weekend he has a fire and love for the game that is almost unmatched by anyone in the league...hell did any of you watch the post game locker room celebration last week where he was singing "pants on the ground" (how the fuck did that "song" get popular...stupid american idol) he just loves the game...i told my friends that if makes it to the super bowl i will buy a favre vikings jersey...if not i guess ill have to buy a brees or manning (if colts win) for my super bowl party.

But back to topic. Yeah it seems like these kids completely bust their asses in their last couple college seasons to get a good draft slot then get paid a TON of money and come in and not perform. I cant wait till the new CBA is done, if ever, and has a set rookie pay scale.

On the opposite side tho i like it when guys squeek into the league with a 6th or 7th round pick and play their asses off and turn into superstars and get the big paydays...they are the ipotame of how its supposed to be done.

Hard to do that since you have a tremendous load of guaranteed $$$$$$$ just for signing up. JR is only the most extreme case of what is plagueing the entire NFL, or to be more truthful all of pro sports. You really only have a handful of players in each pro sport that actually want to win and excel even with the money. I mean honestly look at the state of our beloved Skins right now. Sure Zorn sucked as a HC with his playcalling, but we did supposedly have a decent roster when he came in here. Too many of our guys were virtual no shows this past season for the money they were receiving. Many others just under performed. Fletcher and JC were the only ones that seemed to keep fighting til the end. What they need to do is to cut the salaries to some base amount and pay the guys extra for plays made(TD's, receptions, yardage, points, pancakes, yards passing, etc). Use performance as the conduit for these guys to make the big bucks. Once you do that, then you will get some really interesting ball being played. Sooner or later something like this is going to happen. If the global economy tanks, folks are not going to be able to afford the outrageous ticket prices anymore.

Wasn't that his draft strategy to get Heyward-Bey?

I know there are better owners out there then DS and there are worse owners out there then DS. I'm just thanking our lucky stars that it appears DS got his head out of his ass and hired the right people to get the job done.

Now it sounds like Hue Jackson will be their HC and Cable is lobbying to be demoted to OC. LOL.
Report: Hue Jackson heading to Raiders | ProFootballTalk.com

On a side note it appears the Ravens having lost Hue Jackson are looking into to Ex-Skins for their OC job...... Al Saunders, and you guessed it.....Zorn. LOL.
