Re: JLC: Redskins Interested in Adam Carriker
I was thinking Carter for Carriker and a 2nd or 3rd but your guess is likely better.

Re: JLC: Redskins Interested in Adam Carriker
I could see us trading Carter for Carriker.
or I could see Carriker being part of a huge trade that would send him and St. Louis's first overall pick to us for a lot of picks and players. or the saints just lost they're starting OLB to FA, and they cut they're starting DE. NO's Defense is run by Gregg Williams whom brought in Andre Carter and Rocky McIntosh. We are switching to a 3-4 Defense which Andre Carter has already said he doesn't fit in, and many believe Rocky would be too small for the project ILB position. Could I be sensing a trade here that would send Rocky and Andre to the saints for a few draft picks, like a 2nd and 6th rounder? Sure Rocky's been tendered for a 3rd, and we don't exactly know what we could get for andre, but I think if you put the two together we could be getting those picks, or similar picks

Re: JLC: Redskins Interested in Adam Carriker
Carter will not be a Redskin by the start of the season. He isn't a good fit for the 3-4 and is due a big roster bonus (I think).

Re: JLC: Redskins Interested in Adam Carriker
I agree...he came to the skins because he was no good in a 3-4 in SanFran. And i don't think he has near the trade value that others in this thread do. Sure he had a good year last year but he's an older player and teams generally do not give up draft picks for older players unless they are real difference makers. I suspect the Rams would just want a draft pick if they were to deal Carriker anyway.

Re: JLC: Redskins Interested in Adam Carriker
JLC seems to think the Carriker will get done eventually and Carter is pretty much gone, both via trade.
Also, I noticed that NFLN has Levi Jones as a roster cut. Missed that one. |

We don't seem to mind recent injury issues in this approach to FA.

Re: JLC: Redskins Interested in Adam Carriker
Well it's hard to call a single injury a "history" as most players end up with something sitting them down, but these have been more than some strains and pulls.
It's still early enough if some of these type of moves don't work out. |

Re: JLC: Redskins Interested in Adam Carriker
ADAM CARRIKER
Gathered some info on him... Scouts Three-year starter awarded All-Conference honors after his junior and senior campaigns. Totals last season were 52/16/7, with one interception and three pass break-ups. Junior totals included 43/17/9.5. Pos: Physically impressive prospect who plays an intelligent brand of football. Instinctive and immediately locates the ball. Moves laterally with speed defending the run and has a burst upfield rushing the quarterback. Makes plays in all directions, immediately altering his angle of attack or redirecting to ball handlers. Flashes power and wraps-up tackling. Neg: Stymied at the point of attack by a single blocker. Stands to develop more moves to disengage from opponents. FFTOOLBOX Adam Carriker was a three years starter at defensive end for Nebraska and was one of the Big 12's most dominant defensive players during that period. Carriker brings an impressive frame at almost 300 pounds, with tremendous strength and athleticism for his size. His strength and long arms allow him to gain separation from the blocker and pursue the ball carrier or quarterback. Although his strength is against the run, Carriker established himself as pass rusher with 16.5 sacks over the last two seasons at Nebraska. Carriker displays excellent foot work and agility to make his way down the line of scrimmage in pursuit of the ball carrier. He is not as explosive off the edge as other prospects in the upcoming draft, but shows enough speed and quickness to close on most quarterbacks. Carriker's lack of speed off the edge makes him better suited for a 4-3 scheme versus a 3-4 at the next level. Some teams have shown concern over nagging ankle injuries that significantly limited his playing time during his first two years however; he has been injury free for the last two seasons. Carriker was extremely impressive at the Senior Bowl and combine workouts and solidified his position as a first round selection. Look for him to go mid-to-late first round. SBNation Strengths and Weaknesses I have seen people talking about Carriker not fitting into a 3-4 very well because of lack of speed. I don't get where that comes from other than Internet rumors, and I've addressed some of that above in the NFL Combine information. John Clayton states that he may be the best choice for a 3-4 defensive end in the draft. Given his 6' 6", nearly 300 pound frame in combination with his quickness, Carriker keeps his feet very well, meaning that he won't be easily moved off the ball if he's asked to play defensive tackle or end in a 4-3. Carriker's work ethic is well known and he has no character issues that I'm aware of. He was born in Hastings, Nebraska, and moved to Washington when he was three years old. As some of his family still resides in Nebraska, the Huskers were a natural choice for his college career. With regards to weaknesses - go find one and let me know what it is because while he may not be the best fit into a very specific scheme, he does everything pretty well. Jamaal Anderson of Arkansas and Gaines Adams of Clemson are ranked above Carriker, but given his physical specimen, work ethic, and character, I'd argue that he's the best all-around defensive end prospect available for the NFL draft.

I don't have it at my finger tips, but he's had ankle (same ankle) issues dating back to his days at Nebraska and has had trouble playing on it with the Rams. This isn't a single history thing with him. Not by a long stretch. |
