Re: Guard watches coast for oil slick's first wave
Quote:
"Last month, Obama proposed new offshore drilling in the Atlantic Ocean from Delaware to central Florida, plus the northern waters of Alaska. Obama also wanted Congress to lift a drilling ban in the oil-rich eastern Gulf of Mexico, 125 miles from Florida beaches. Drilling already takes place in western and central areas of the Gulf of Mexico." I believe BP is responsible for the entire cleanup bill based on laws enacted after the Valdez spill.

Re: Guard watches coast for oil slick's first wave
I'm glad BP is slated to foot the cleanup bill. Not sure this has an impact to "proposals." What Obama proposed is nowhere near actionable so there is time to reverse. All he has to do is say "After this disaster we'll going to re-think these proposals." Plus Dems haven't passed laws allowing for off-shore drilling yet. Whatever happens you can bet the GOP will oppose them.

HAHAHAHA! Try to blame Obama for this mess, just try it. No more drilling around here. There are plenty of oil reserves in the deserts of the world we don't ahve to destroy our precious gulf coast. Just pay for the oil you want instead fo assssinating presidentrs and trying to colonize Arabia.

Set solid standards, regulate "appropriately", penalize those who fail to meet standards, and utilize our resources effectively. Seems like a rational policy could be achieved. No?

Re: Guard watches coast for oil slick's first wave
I'm with you, this really shouldn't turn into a huge political debate. We've got a major ecological disaster on our hands, let's get all resources necessary to handle the problem and worry about the who/what/why later.
