Re: Tea Party America preview
Ok, so i didn't mention Northrupp Gruman or the other slew of contractors who are employed across from the USAFA or through out the region. Believe me when I say Colo Springs is a military and contractor economy.

Increases in Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Interest on the national debt all make the deficit bigger not just the wars.

Re: Tea Party America preview
I'm sure the federal deficit has some affect on city budgets but I don't think its a major factor. Hell if anything Obama has that 700 and some billion for boots on the ground projects so I guess your right that deficit adding pork has done very little to help states and cities creat jobs. I guess we have now come full circle.

Re: Tea Party America preview
I am not arguing that millitary bases bring in money to local communities, they do. The money being spent on the War is mostly spent at Lockheed Martin, etc, not bases. Everytime they kill a Taliban, that's 10 million dollars please. The trillion dollars spent on the war this year has not made any solidiers richer. Hell thats enough to give every soliier how many dollars? They won't see it. Some CEO's bonus will be spent on some chick with the money we borrowed that is making our deficit stupid big.

Re: Tea Party America preview
I don't understand your premise. Since the war makes the Federal debt larger it forces a mid sized city to cut "essential services"? Colorado Springs has a budget, it gets money from federal aid, state aid, and local taxes. The city managers have to manage the city with that sum of money. They told the taxpayers that they needed more, much more, and the residents said we don't trust what you are doing. Now the city says ok then we will cut these services and see what happens. For the purposes of the article the Federal Debt only impacts Colorado Springs as far as the interest rates on any bonds they offer, and loans they take out. Your war hypothesis just doesn't really fit into this whole equation, especially since war funding does actually help and not hurt a city like Colorado Springs.

Re: Tea Party America preview
here is a subset from the greater colorado springs business journal(number in parenthesis is active businesses):
Dancing Instruction (1) Data Storage (1) Defense Contractors (27) Defense Systems (6) Delivery Service-Business & Personal (1) Demolition (1) here is the full link in case you want to check it: The Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce interestingly the only other category with more businesses (other than "preferred partners") is "Restaurants Bars and Nightclubs" which again from personal knowledge is highly dependent on military funding. |

Re: Tea Party America preview
No JTF, I am talking about the contractors that make the electronics, companies heavily invested in the war effort you are talking about. i don't know if you are purposely hard headed, or you just don't want to acknowledge the point, but I understand the companies you are referring to and I am telling you that those are people who are living in the colo springs areas. I am very sorry it doesn't fit with your framework mentality.

http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...jQYT4wnzgrFYTw Your "toys" would be included in the procurement line item. But remember these contractors employ people and pay them very well to go over to such a hostile environment to build communications networks and support weapons systems. My company lost one of our very solid local employees to a contractor in Iraq (he got a 40% or so pay increase). The defense contractors need to employ people to make the toys and those are generally good paying jobs. The contractors employed locally at the bases do a lot more than clean up the base. They often run IT systems or support DoD projects/programs that are specific to each local base. Those jobs also normally pay well and those people spend money in the local economy. So as much as you want to bash defense spending and defense contractors for everything, that simply isn't the case.

Sheila Dixon « The Politics Meister
these gov't pensions and pay are out of control. every time I call any gov't agency or dept they are the rudest most unprofessional people around. i worked a gov't job and from what i saw noone cares, noone does any work. yet they demand to raise our taxes so that their ridiculus interest on their pension plan stays guaranteed. most of us dont have pensions, those things are dinosaur bones in the private sector, in the govt they are guaranteed like its 1986. i hate hate hate most govt employees. the only good and helpful ones who actually do their job are people who are new, give them a year then they become rude sefl-entitled jerks who dont do squat except complain. as to military contracts handed out to the priv contractors, you can make millions off the gov't in the name of military.

Re: Tea Party America preview
You have no idea what you are talking about. I have atleast 10 to 15 friends that work or own a small business that do 100% of their business with the local bases. Thats just guys I know there are 1000's of businesses here in our are that contract with the goverment. I would go as far as guessing that more federal money is spent with the small contractors then the big boys like lockheed. By the way Lockheed also employees alot of money so its not like one person is sticking the money in their pocket.

Re: Tea Party America preview
War makes us poor.
The American Conservative » War Makes Us Poor "War is a racket" Smedley Butler War is a Racket I still don't understand what this has to do with the TEA Party? As a matter of fact, this is what is dividing the TEA Party. CNN Political Ticker: All politics, all the time Blog Archive - Palin, Paul expose rift in Tea Party « - Blogs from CNN.com This is a spat between us right-wingers. AKA the Conservatives, Neo-Cons, and the Libertarians, although the Neo-Cons are socialist IMO. You don't know what it is to be a right winger JTF. So stick to your poliburo talk with the rest of your heathen commie brethren.
