Re: Polamalu is the DPOY
I think they are basically both just as deserving. Probably would have gone with Mathews just because without him GBs defense would have been slightly above average and Pitt still would have had a very good defense. Either way I am surprised Willfork didnt get any votes at all. year in year out he is one of the top two Defensive interior linemen. Reed only person I disagree with being on that list since he missed so many games.

Re: Polamalu is the DPOY
Awesome player, hes always all over the place, sideline to sideline, everywhere on the field and makes big plays. The only knock i had on him and Mathews is that they both missed some time with injury.
I was also hoping a little bit for James Harrison too since he played outstanding this year even againts the whole nfl crack down on hard hits. |

Re: Polamalu is the DPOY
Tough call because they play different positions. Polamalu had 7 picks and a TD...stats similar to D. Hall. He also missed 2 games. Matthews had 14 sacks and was just as much of a force on the field, a guy that opponents have to gameplan around and try to avoid as much as possible. He missed a single game. Looking at stats, I'd give the edge to Clay Matthews because 14 sacks is far more impressive than 7 INTs, which did not even lead the league. Ed Reed had 8 INTs, why not consider him? Asante Samuel and Dexter McCourty had 7 each. Now Matthews did not lead the NFL in sacks either, he was third to Ware with 16. But, watching both players...Matthews just seems like more of a disruptive force and contributes more to his team than Polamalu, who also has some extra hype on his side.
Another player left out of the discussion so far is Ndamukong Suh.

Re: Polamalu is the DPOY
Woodson had a very down year...only 2 picks. He was a monster in 2009. He had 92 tackles so I don't think we can contribute all of the decline in numbers to him not being thrown at.
