Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
CP is the best blocking back i have ever seen play the game i would really like to see him still picking up the rush next year. I just hope we can get some young guy to try and out CP in this area.

Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
Doesn't he own a few houses? Not sure what's all in the area though.
If he's not here he might as well see if the Dolphins will invite him in. He can still spend his offseasons in Miami like he has been and he'd be back home.

Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
I personally think CP will be back in a limited role in a new deal .... what's the risk of having him split carries with Torrain ? Not to mention Keiland Williams was a nice surprise ... all that being said it depends on whether we can get those cap numbers down ... CP provided some great Redskins moments in a time when there weren't too many .. HTTR ..
Clinton Portis - Best Blocking RB in the last 10 years hands down

Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
There is no roster spot for "blocking back".
Just running backs and fullbacks. Bye Clinton, you're an injury waiting to happen.

The dude's not gone yet! Until there is an official word, he's still a Redskin and one of my favorites.

Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
It normally is something. I do not see Portis in DC next season. After two back to back major injury plagued years, enough.
Its time for the future tandem running game to arrive in DC, Torain could possibly be one part of the solution.

Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
True, but Shanahan was then able to get Dre Bly with Bell and George Foster. I don't think well get anything back for Portis when Portis leaves here.

Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
I think the biggest hurdle in getting Portis back here next year will be salary. His is scheduled to make something like 8.2 million or something, and i just dont see that happening. I also think that Portis believes he can still start in the league, so i would see him trying to land on at a running-back needy team.
Of Course, he could always be resigned at a low cost, but i think since he's 30, and doesnt have a long time left, he will try and get one last big contract, maybe one that is largely incentive based..like others have pointed out we look good at RB right now with Torain and Williams, so this will be interesting....

Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
I agree, they already waste a roster spot on Sellers, there's no way they can tie up another RB spot on CP if all he is going to do is block on passing downs.

Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
I never reaaly understood some of the fans resentment towards Portis. Gibbs adored the guy and Shanahan had nothing but positive things to say. Did his rift with Zorn really piss you guys off thast much? His marginal attempts at comedy that unsavory? Why do some of you dislike CP so much (who by the way is our second all-time leading rusher)?

Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
I think the fans' tide started to turn on CP when he started getting lazy with practice habits and committment, and then started throwing everybody under the bus. That and the fact that his attitude seemed to worsen each year since 2007, along with the fact that his play steadily declined each year, and i think after that the fans kind of had it with him. If he was producing on the field, i think it would have been different. But he trash talked and bad mouthed everything, and then sucked on the field.
His act wore thin and I really believe he was such a model player last season because he finally came across a coach who wouldnt take his shit. Shanahan got rid of him once before in Denver after threatening to be a hold-out, and Portis knew that his old coach would do the same thing again if he got under his skin...

Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
We got a stud.
They got a stud. They dumped two duds for a slightly better dud. Of course Matt Millen being a moron helps. Fact is that even though Denver screwed the pooch, Denver gave themselves a better chance to improve their team beyond just getting Bailey. We got Portis, but denyed ourselves the ability to have a chance to help our team in addition to Portis.
