Re: Willie Parker Trashes Redskins Lockeroom

IN THE PAST, the Redskins have had a reputation around the league as a "warm and fuzzy" team. Their training camp was a "country club" when compared to some of the "boot camps" that other teams staged. The coaches did not crack the whip often and when they did it was not very painful.

SOME of the Skins players from previous rosters were well known as "social animals" in the wee hours of many weeknights. If a reporter wanted to write an article on which DC athletes were out and about at night, it would NOT be difficult for him to find a half-dozen night spots in the DC area where he could observe who was out and with whom on which evening. That is the fodder of gossip columns and luckily for some past Redskins - - and Wizzards - - gossip columns in DC are only considered important if they involve politicians. It is a fact that every team has "social animals" on it; the Skins had their share...

Only when Marty Schottenheimer was here really cracking the whip did the Skins team come close to resembling the focus of the "Lombardi Packers" - - who by the way had more than a couple of "social animals" on its roster! Other recent head coaches - - Pettibone to the present - - were far closer to the "players' coach end of the spectrum" than to the "drill sergeant end of the spectrum."

As with all charges and insinuations of this kind, there is always a hint of "truthiness" in there along with plenty of exaggeration, generalization, retaliation and aggravation.

The word around the league is that Shanahan is trying to pull the reins on the team and increase the percentage of "football first" players. That will take time and that will cause some controversies - - as we have seen already. The ONLY way that culture change can be completed is for the coaches, the fans and the owner to have the patience and the focus to see it through.

If this is true, and personally I have little reason to believe it isn't, then I would expect Paul and Hurt to be at a disadvantage because out of the 12 players we drafted they were the only two with character concerns.

Re: Willie Parker Trashes Redskins Lockeroom

I know this team has had its issues, but it is not like we're the Bengals of a few seasons ago when they had a ton of players arrested and a whole bunch of head cases on their team. Personally, I don't care much what Parker says given that a.) he sucked while he was here with the team and b.) he was here for just a couple of months.

Personally, I feel that with this draft Shanahan is showing that he truly wants to change the culture of the team by bringing good character guys (that can still play). I do hope that he continues this by getting rid of McNabb and Haynesworth.

And 6 Superbowls......

But seriously, a lot of the players that were pursued by multiple teams picked DC because we paid them the most. Fletcher probably included although the GW relationship could have been a big part. Some guys are gonna play hard as hell every down of every game and earn their money and respect (Fletcher) some guys might be content just doing enough and collecting their paycheck. I think the types of guys we drafted this year shows that Allen and Shanahan recognized the need for a character change.

Also when a team hasn’t really won anything and regularly finished last in its division over 15+ years that has to shape your teams cloture, Especially when compared to a team that has vets and coaches still on a team that know what it takes it win 2 Superbowls and regularly win their division and have high expectations. When you don’t party on the field maybe partying off the field is the only way to maintain…. You have to party one way or another brah……

did willie touch you in the no-no spot?

the truth hurts, hopefully we can change this type of menatality here. i really don't think parker gave his comments much thought or meant them as a dig towards the redskins franchise or it's fans. i think he was just hyping up his former team and showing their fans some love.

Organizational culture - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Parker is a brighter bulb than most think. After all, other companies(i.e Enron, Saloman Brothers) have been downed because of their shit culture.

Also, the actual quote was "they weren't about football, they were about partying".

Their QB and (former) kicker are known to be party animals, but maybe Willie didn't hang out with them. Just like when he was here, I'm sure he didn't spend a ton of time with Fletch, PD, and Lorenzo Alexander.

all while talking bad about his most recent teammates and fans? Not the way to do it, if that's what he wanted to do.

Parker was referring to the COMMITMENT of the players to the craft. It is NOT that partying is unacceptable, it is the favoring of partying so much that our players were uncommitted to football that was the problem.

Rapistberger, despite his alleged raping excursions, DOES dedicate himself to his craft. Hence, even after his suspension, they reached the Super Bowl ONCE AGAIN.

Their kicker? Dude, kicking is one of the "lightest" jobs in football in terms of knowing what to do.

And besides, he also said something to the effect that if one dude tried to get them to talk about and be about football, it was like trying to move a freaking mountain. It just didn't get through.

No one is so ****ing immaculate that criticism is not deserved, especially for the Redskins. If someone is a ugly mutt, then he IS AN ugly mutt. The person who said it stated a fact.

He may have kept his mouth shut, but this excerpt does show which place he prefers.

Wide receiver Antwaan Randle-El is well equipped to speak about what makes the Steelers special. After spending the first four years of his career with the Steelers, Randle-El left for greener pastures with Dan Snyder in Washington. Following a four year stint with the Redskins, Randle-El is back with the Steelers. Upon his return, Randle-El made sure he reminded his teammates who have never played anywhere else just how good they have it.
