Re: CJ28 Doesn't like COPS. Says "It's hard being young, black and rich"
That said, Johnson lives in a nice area. So in this case he's right, this seems like profiling.
The question is, were people profiling him because he's black, or because they know he plays in the NFL?

I have co-workers who talk about never before seen cars coming down their road or culdisack. What do you tell them? don't worry about it. No I tell them if they see something suspicious call the police and if possible get a tag. None of us were there and don't have any idea what exactly was going on other then to say the MTV crew was there and some (yes probably nosey neighbor) one called the cops in regards to suspicious activity. So are the cops susposed to ignore the call and not check it out? Which calls are they susposed to ignore? What if you call about suspicous activity in your neighborhood? should they ignore it? especially if there are black males involved? I know it looks like I'm calling you out Schneed10 but I'm not. Your rant was probably toward the neighbor, my rant is toward the people mad because the police were called out and were asked to do their job. The police found out he was doing nothing wrong and walked. Better yet why couldn't he tweet something like "hey just had the 5-0 at my door because of nosey neighbors." Because there is no drama in that. It sounds better to say " the po po just banged on my door thinking we was selling drugs up in here." It's all about how one looks at life and how they want to communicate. |

With the other comments made I was simply asking that if a call goes out to the police that there is suspicous activity and after arriving, what are they supposed to do if they have been called out there? I'll be the first to agree African Americans or minorities in general, a lot of the time are not treated fairly. I would be ignorant to say "no there is no such thing as profiling." But in this case it's hard to tell if the "neighbor" was profiling or not. We don't have their side of the story. What if the neighbor was African American also? People here were quick to jump on the foot ball players inuendo that he was being singled out because he was "black and rich." In other words it's the cops or a neighbor who were being racist and profiling. and all I'm trying to point out is the cops were doing their jobs. They were called there. Someone reported suspicous activity and we don't know exactly what activity was going on. I would like to think any and all of us would call the cops if we saw "anyone" who had suspicous activity and that does not constitute anyone being racist or profiling. |

Seriously though, the one problem I see besides the obvious profiling is IMO Police should have real allegations of illegalities or justifiable proof before going onto onto someones property and confronting someone to ask and if what the are doing is illegal. This is still America... right? If the POLICE see something illegal even if it is something minor like loud music or public intoxication then go ahead and take care of business. But if a neighbor calls and says there are many high value cars going in and out of our neighborhood due the new neighbor, that should not be enough reason to confront the new neighbor. There is nothing illegal with that. Conduct an investigation, track the traffic, tap phone lines. That is fine. Do some actual police work before you knock on my door and point an accusatory finger at me. If at that point you find any evidence or hint that there might be something illegal going on then respond. But don't take the word of a stranger over another. |

Or because they've heard him speak and have come to the realization that he's stoned out of his ****ing mind?

CJ got profiled by his neighbors. It could have been for a number of reasons: - He's black - He's an NFL player (see Goodell's personal conduct policy and the number of guys snagged by it) - He came from a poor, uneducated background Note that never did I say any of this is cool, and never did I say that CJ deserves the profiling because he's black.

Re: CJ28 Doesn't like COPS. Says "It's hard being young, black and rich"
I obviously don't know Chris personally. However from what I've seen of him he's probably one of the nicer guys in the league right now. Maybe it's unfair to judge him by his look but it does put him at risk for getting noticed in the wrong way. It's not black people, society in general just prefer for others to be clean cut and well dressed so when you go out with dreads, gold teeth, baggy clothes and people know little if anything about you, then you're going to get the wrong kind of attention.
I mean compare him to other black athletes like Jordan, Bo Jackson, Dwight Howard, and Tiger Woods to name a few who at the very least maintain a sort of GQ image. Trust me if a white guy dressed like CJ28 he would be turning heads as well. Still I really do believe that Johnson is one of the better guys in the league that gives a couple of people the wrong idea based on how he presents himself.

I'll just say profiling happens to white teenagers in suburban areas also. Could've been some scared rich hispanic, black, asian, or any other race that called in the police.

Yeah, why are you guys profiling us whites as trigger happy police dialers I'm filing a report now to get this fixed.
