Chris Russell says Chad Simpson will also be cut (not surprising, doesn't merit its own thread)

I would be happier if he was beat out in camp & became the backup center or was then released. I realize that he's better off being released now than later. Hope we're not griping about Kory L. or Montgomery in a couple months!

Rabach was part of Gibbs II & held down his position for 6 years; good team player but time had caught up w/him. Thanks Casey!

SS, did the Rabach release surprise you from what you were hearing previously?

With our Oline interior plan, it kinda shakes things up. If Rabach is in place at C, Left Guard seemed to be one of the guys who now replaces Rabach (maybe). If we sign a free agent at the RG position (top notch hopefully), lets say Montgomery wins the job. Is Kory L. at Left Guard? Seems to me if Montgomery fails at Center and doesnt win the job, we are once again in trouble in the interior unless a young guy steps up or getting a couple vet guards the play?

I know he was a good guy and a leader, but he was not producing on the field. I can't remember how many times I saw the likes of Jay Ratliff just truck over the guy. Now let's get Davin Joseph or Harvey Dahl.

Back in February? No, wouldn't have surprised me. It was expected. But as the lockout dragged on it seemed less likely they would release him right away

Rabach's contract was basically set up as a 1 year deal, so this shouldn't be a big surprise.

Uh, so, we're not tanking the season? Weird. I could have sworn we were going to pull this one off.

I think the guy the FO wanted to take Rabach spot was the player selected by the Raiders before we took Hankerson in the 3rd round.

I guess from a plan standpoint it surprises me especially when you name Montgomery the starter, but hell why should that when we have named Beck a starter. dunno, the lockout did eff somethings up, but makes things much more interesting. I hope we get some breaks and our guys step up

re: Redskin Veteran Cuts

I haven't been able to have a serious discussion about Rabach in more than a year. The guy was an a fringe roster guy way back on Jim Zorn's first team. He wasn't that good in 2007. By December 2008, he wasn't even a top 30 NFL center. It's unbelievable that the Redskins changed quarterbacks TWICE while they kept up the charade that Rabach belonged on an NFL field.

Perhaps no player's performance better aggregated the lunacy of being a Redskins fan over the Gibbs-Zorn-Shanahan transition than the horrible performance of Casey Rabach. He was truly the consummate Redskin. And for that, he will always be remembered and cherished.

Particularly when they bring him back next week on a one year deal.

Little extra bitter coffee this morning GTripp? Can't you just rejoice with the rest of us? C'mon.... I know you must have smiled at least once in the past. Try to remember and replicate.
