Since Riley's starting can we cut Rocky and save some $ toward the cap? He's donzo anyway w/ Zo moving inside...

Edit: ok nevermind on Rocky lol he's literally donzo in DC.

The news on Zo is awesome though I hope he's a beast. Big dude for an ILB!!!

Re: Lorenzo Moving Inside

As an 3-4 inside backer, does he have more coverage responsibilities than if he is outside? Anyone know if the guy can cover?

I mean, it seems to make sense given all the young talent at OLB (White, Jackson, Kerrigan, Orakpo) and, like I said at first, I thought he was more of an interior guy anyway. Maybe they put him at OLB b/c it didn't require him going sideline to sideline? Maybe they thought he didn't have the speed to stay with a TE deep over the middle? I guess the bottom line is - does he have the physical ability to meet the demands of the position?

I really am just curious if anyone actually knows his physical ability. I love the guy and am sure he has the heart and the football i.q. to play the position - but when a TE goes deep (not talking Gronkowski - but your standard NFL TE), does Alexander have the speed and athleticism to stay with him and cover him effectively?

1. MLB coverage responsiblities are about the same as the OLB's are. MLB's in 3-4 Defenses are there to blitz up the A gap, and cover the middle of the field, the TE's and the RB's. Some 3-4 MLB's have do more 'hook zones' coverages. Typically 3-4 MLB's don't play a lot of man, they tend to play zone.

2. His physical ability from a redskin fans stand point is that he's 'solid'. His physical ability from another teams stand point is that he's poor for the coverage ability.

3. He definitely has the football IQ being that he's played so many years at so many different positions, but MLB isn't just something you learn over night nor with a few months from the season away. Lorenzo is in a good situation because Fletcher and Riley know their stuff, so they can teach him. Unless one of them goes down early, you have nothing to worry about Lorenzo starting for us this year at ILB.

Chances are we'll be lucky to have an Antonio Pierce to LaMar Marshall like transition when Fletch leaves.

I mean it's not the end of the world and we're not like Philly in terms of Linebackers but I doubt we'll come across the Andrew Luck of linebackers right after Fletch leaves.

It's funny that it seems ILBs are one of the harder to find positions...

He's a beast. They definitly should have is jersey in Walmart so I don't have to spend a ton to get it. lol. Oh and next year he will be switching to kicker. lol.

Re: Lorenzo Moving Inside

In coverage he's going to be a liability cause there's no way he's agile enough to cover TE's or Rb's. However he could really be a beast against the run. He's probbaly going to have to slim down 15 pounds or so but I like this move.

Re: Lorenzo Moving Inside

Zo is listed at 275 lbs still, too big for an ILB. Get him down to a lean, mean 260 and it should help the transition. He's also 28 so like Fletcher he could have 10 more great years of football.

Re: Lorenzo Moving Inside

My favorite Redskin is the most adaptable player on the roster, he has done a darn good job whenever he has been asked to play a certain position. I predict great play by a great player, no one is running inside.

This move doesn't surprise me one bit. Lorenzo Alexander has already played three or four positions on the Redskins already. There was talk last year about him moving to inside LB.

Re: Lorenzo Moving Inside

This is a long time coming.
He seems like a all purpose Sellers to me.
Big guys like him are usually good between the tackles.
ILB or blocking fullback seem like good fits for him.

They likely kept him on defense for a reason, though...I will be very curious if this works out...and frankly, I wouldn't be suprised if this ends up being his HOME position.

Perhaps they are making room for the possibility of another pass rushing OLB in the draft, I am not really impressed with our OLB depth, particularly if something happens to our 2 young starters. What would happen to our rush?

We still need a potential young starter at ILB too....unless I am forgetting someone

Overall...great move, classic LB mentality

Re: Lorenzo Moving Inside

Geez oh man thinking of the special teams hits Zo given us over the years it would be fantastic if he brought that kind of nastiness to the defense!!!!!!!!!!!!! We need that from our ILBs. London has it but Zo's size would be all the better...
