Re: A question of style: Evan, Roy or Tim?
JR, the nice thing is we don't have to have one back taking the pounding all season. I'm just excited to see our running backs not tripping over their own two feet.

Re: A question of style: Evan, Roy or Tim?
To avoid being redundant, I'll take a different spin on each of their strengths...
Hightower-His best attribute is effort. He's not the fastest, not the quickest or shiftiest. He also doesn't do anything GREAT but he does lots of things really well. He's got a nice short distance burst so he can get through holes. He catches well enough to be conscious of but not concerned with as a defense. He's is a tenacious blocker which is all effort and technique. He sets up his cuts well by maintaining good balance. Helu-His best attribute (other than speed) is getting the extra yard. It took me a while to come around on this part of his game last season but I noticed that almost every time he falls forward. Getting that forward lean and push can get a few extra yards per game and extend drives. He also has excellent balance but his main shortcoming leads me into Royster's strength... Royster-His best attribute is vision. He seems to find holes and cutback lanes better than either Helu or Hightower. With our scheme, holes appear and disappear quickly and a runner needs to be able to make a quick decision and hit it quickly. Royster showed that ability as his carries increased. He lacks home run speed or elite balance and fell at a Portis like rate. If Helu had his vision or Royster had his athleticism, we would have a superstar.

Royster does tend to lose his balance a lot, hopefully he can improve on that.

Evan, Roy or Tim? or....... RG3! RG3 will end up with more rushing yards than the other 3.

We are pretty f'ed if this happens, b/c it means that RG3 will get hit a lot.

Re: A question of style: Evan, Roy or Tim?
I agree Ruh. I want to see him with a strong passing game and the threat to kill you with his feet. Strong arm, accuracy, vision, timing, and defense diagnostic skills to go with some speed that can kill you in the open field and move the chains.
I tend to agree with every one's assessments on the RBs. I like all three, and each bring something different to the table. So is Morris moving to FB? I have not seen it confirmed.

I like Royster the best. He has the all around talents of Hightower and the production of Helu.

Those highlights showed a lot of those inside toss run plays that really was an effective wrinkle to the run game. This offense is going to be amazing.

Re: A question of style: Evan, Roy or Tim?
HT (if returns to 100%) good all around back (enters camp as the best pass protector), good but not great speed, can make the quick cutback, reads the running lanes well and will make the right choice but imo cannot take a consistent pounding (I don't think any of our backs are built like that) has the mentality but doesn't have the same power to run through contact like Helu
o My favorite of the trio is Helu because of decisiveness doesn't dance or dawdle, home run speed and his surprising ability to run through contact and break some tackles, can make the quick cutback o I think Royster is the more fluid runner then Helu (imo Helu moves aren't as quick and tend to be somewhat herky-jerky but still very effective none the less) Evan has the best ability small area elusiveness however I think Royster lacks true home run speed and isn't as tough as runner |
