It won't take us long to make two 5th rounders disappear....

I think McCants might want to play for a team where he would have a much more prominent role, and we do have a bit of a logjam at WR right now. If McCants stays, Taylor Jacobs may not have a lot of room to get on the field to show what he can do.
And its true, I am already salivating about another "scintillating" 5th round draft choice. I can see the cover of Sports Illustrated now - a big number 5, and the headline "With two 5th round picks, can the Redskins be stopped?" |

Sign Darnerian to a new multi-year deal, and trade Gardner to Baltimore for a 3rd rounder (or the best offer we can get). Either of them will flourish under Gibbs in the "Monk" type role, and McCants will be cheaper, even with a new deal. Plus, this is the last year of Gardner's contract, so he may be gone next year anyway....

You have a point. However, I think all this depends on Jacobs. If he shows through in mini camp, then JG may be OK with losing McCants or Gardner. If not, then I suspect we may resign McCants and restructure Gardner soon.

Skinsrock:
Put yourself in the position of the GM for the Ravens. You can sign McCants to the contract you negotiate with him which is obviously to your liking and give up a 5th round pick - - - OR - - - You can give up a 3rd round pick and take Gardner with whatever contract he signed with the skins previously. Which would you do if you were the Ravens' GM? That's why trading Gardner there ain't gonna happen. By the way, if I had to pick either Gardner or McCants in a draft and give up nothing to get either one, I'd probably take McCants. It would be close... Redskins8588: Do yourself a favor and believe NOTHING on redskins.com except for statistical data such as where so-and-so went to school or what is the date of birth for Joe Flabeetz. The rest of the stuff there just spin control pumped out by the Skins' PR Department. If Adolf Hitler played for the Redskins, they'd tell you he is merely a tough competitor who likes to run roughshod over his competition. The ONLY time you will hear anything negative about a Skins' player from the PR Department is when they are beginning to set the stage to release a player or not to re-sign him in the off-season. Remember Brian Mitchell? About six weeks before the Skins' decided to let him go, there were strange whispers about him being a "locker room problem" and an "abrasive personality" and that he had "lost a step". Amazing...
