Re: Quarterback Hype
There is currently more smoke than in Cheech's 64 Impala.

Re: Quarterback Hype
Do you think we would get that much for the 5th? I could see a swap of firsts and Bradford.

For our side, what if RGIII '15 looks like RGIII '14? We'll need a starter.

Re: Quarterback Hype
If Mariota is there - I believe the Redskins should and will take him. Consensus from draft scouting experts is Mariota is a top 10 player on their big boards.
The only thing that prevents this is - the investment in RGIII. Here's the best thing to do to get around that - keep RGIII. And if RGIII changes and improves then great. You now have a good qb and another potentially good young one on the same roster. But if quarterback is currently a hole on the team, then the decision is easy - draft a potentially better option if the option is available. Or you can keep hoping that RGIII turns it around - which doesn't look likely in the immediate future. RGIII doesn't appear he wants to change - he thinks it's something outside of what he's doing. |

Re: Quarterback Hype
And with the thought that this is a smokescreen - I think it's more likely it's the opposite. I think Gruden announcing RGIII in February that he was #1 going into next season - was a smokescreen for their interest in drafting Mariota.
Because if you compare them, which one really makes more sense considering the current state of the quarterback position. |

Re: Quarterback Hype
Mariota will be the backup plan to the likely event that RGIII doesn't improve again with his decision-making skills and pocket awareness. Just like Caepernick was the backup plan to Alex Smith in San Francisco and Russell Wilson was to Flynn in Seattle.

Re: Quarterback Hype
Yeah we don't have that luxury. And kap and wilson were not number 5 overall pics.

Re: Quarterback Hype
I wouldn't call trying to draft a potentially good quarterback when you are lacking at that position - a luxury. But I guess if we don't have that the only thing we have left is hope. Personally, I don't even have that any more.

Re: Quarterback Hype
And just because it was the wrong decision to invest so many draft picks to get RGIII, you shouldn't continue to hamstring yourself and your team by not trying to fix the quarterback position, if you have a good chance to. If you don't continue to try, then you're giving up on the most important position on the team. And you're compounding your biggest problem.

Re: Quarterback Hype
I'm not saying to give up on RGIII, but give yourself a better chance with another viable option.

Re: Quarterback Hype
noooooo. i dont think were truly in that buisness lol
we cant live in this league with 3rd stringers starting on the Oline and secondary. We have talent here, a bum here, ok here, a bum there. too many weak spots and average fillers on defense. let rg get one year where he feels like his job isnt on the line. kills a players confidence. some it helps. some it just irritates and gets in theyre head and they play worse. nobody can relate from a real life scenario?..no?..okie.

Re: Quarterback Hype
I'm still kind of in disbelief that after everything that we've seen from RG3, how can prevailing thought be to not give up on him yet? I understand that we paid a king's ransom for him - but like some here have said - we have a chance to fix our mistake...
