Re: Around the NFL Week 17

Silly question from a UK fan but is the tv losing viewers for any particular reason?

Too many reviews? Too many holding fouls that look minimal?

It's not to do with all the players knealing is it?

Genuine question from uk.

Little bit of everything. Yes some of it the kneeling other is an over saturated market with games on Sunday and Sunday night,Monday,Thursday and some Saturdays, add in College games on Friday and Sat and High school games Friday and Sat.Bad product, not well played games games have been watered down with to many commercials and to many rules. The behavior of the players has all so turned many viewers off of the game and last, way to many injuries.

Around the NFL Week 17

The kneeling shit is a minimal impact at best.

It’s all about how people consume media today, the days of everyone huddled around their TV’s is over. People watch on their phones or tablets, or at their convenience on a DVR. And there are far more entertainment options than ever. NFL TV ratings may be lower than a few years ago, but the NFL is still a big draw and also still tops when compared to the other big sports leagues.

I think the decline in TV ratings is overrated. TV ratings are now a limited way to truly judge the popularity of the league.

Re: Around the NFL Week 17

I have to disagree on this one. The kneeling issue is a bigger problem than people want to believe. Last week the ravens sent a letter to all of thier fans around the empty seats and player kneeling. If it was no big deal, the NFL would not have cut the players a shut the f up check.

There are other issues.

1. Nobody can explain a catch.
2. Referrers are not consistency.
3. Shit games on prime time: Thursday night, Sunday night, and Monday night.
4. Trying to make the game safer has caused it to become unwatchable.
5. RG and all of his screw ups. Spy gate, bounty gate, ball gate, etc......

Also moving teams from market to market for more money. The chargers could not fill a 40k soccer stadium in LA.

Me too. Difficult if not impossible to gauge the impact but there is one. I have at least 3 co-workers who have changed their viewing habits. 1 will still watch their team but not any other games. 2 quit watching and made a big deal of it. I suspect 1 of those didn't watch a lot to begin with but I know he watched some.

Re: Around the NFL Week 17

In the UK most Premier League games are unwatchable now as they overanalyse every decision and key moment. They also mute the fans singing so as not to offend anyone watching sometimes. It's become a huge export but a weaker draw for the UK. Even local pubs are priced out of showing live games as it's extortionate.

Personally i love my NFL Sunday fix. Thursday/Monday nah its 2.15am when it kicks off over here.

Every year it cost more and more just to go to a game. your average citizen is being priced right out of the experience.

Then explain how TV viewership is up 12% on bowl games this year, sorry I have no link, heard it on ESPN radio. Of course ESPN broadcasts a lot of bowl games so it might not be an accurate number.

Re: Around the NFL Week 17

I've watched less football this year than ever before. The quality of the football is at an all time low. The last two weeks I've watched Gabbert and Osweiler. Tomorrow is a 2 win Giants team that's atrocious. Top that off w/ a bunch of stupid ass flags that are thrown every week and it's a watered down product. A former shell of what the league use to be.

Whether people like it or not, the protests starting with Kap has had a substantial impact

Re: Around the NFL Week 17

Here is the irony. Revenue is created by the fans, fewer fans = less revenue, less revenue = no salary cap growth. In a few years, when the cap has become stagnant, will the players realize they were the cause?

I am guessing no. There will be a strike and they will make more demands and the owners will remind them of the issues they caused.

Re: Around the NFL Week 17

I haven't watched nearly as many games. The first reason is the Skins play. The second is the officiating - especially the revised replay rules.

As much as I love NFL football - particularly fantasy and the Skins- it's easier to check on the web then to actually watch a full game.

I agree Chico, those snowflakes got really butthurt about a guy kneeling during the anthem after a former Green Beret gave him the idea. That 1 minute really soured the whole 3 hour experience for them. For me it was hard to focus on enjoying the game knowing that a veteran would suggest the idea to disrespect the military like that.
