Re: You picking up Chase Young 5th Year Option?
Yes. Better to option him now and get at least an extra year on rookie money. If he bombs its a 1 year rental. If he soars you have time to negotiate.

Might end up franchising Sweat after this year and Chase after 2024. And I'm fine with that. The 1st year franchise tag is a valuable tool for teams.

Unless there are concerns about his knee, you absolutely pick up the 5th year.

Agreed. His knee isn’t my main concern even. I just do not think he is the dynamic playmaker we hoped he was. But we have to give him one more chance and I will just hope he learns to be that dynamic player. I just don’t see it happening. |

Snyder sells, Chase plays like he did his rookie season, we hit on a few draft picks, and Howell can be solid, we can have a good season. I don't think that's unreasonable. Howell will be the biggest wildcard imo.

I stopped reading after Snyder sells -- that is honestly the only thing I care about at the moment.

Re: You picking up Chase Young 5th Year Option?
Without a doubt, had a great rookie season then got hurt. He was a second overall pick for a reason and will bounce back. I would pay all 4 (Allen, Sweat, Payne and young). We have no QB, OL, LB, RB, TE to pay, pretend 2 of them play OL. Other teams are paying QB, OL, LB, etc. We have a few years to play them and can always trade any of them. Draft 2 young OL with the 1st 3 picks.

Re: You picking up Chase Young 5th Year Option?
My college roommate from Columbus is a diehard Buckeye (and WFT fan) and thinks Chase is overrated. But though I am not sold on him long term, it makes total sense to pick up his 5th and get a fix on his value. I just wish these high draft picks of the past few years could be developing in whatever the new Harris regime is going to be. Arrington is the cautionary tale in this regard — a beast who never got into a good coaching groove.

Re: You picking up Chase Young 5th Year Option?
Looks like Ron is going to make him earn that big $$
@NickiJhabvala The Commanders are not going to exercise DE Chase Young’s fifth-year option, per sources. @NickiJhabvala Worth noting that Ron Rivera has a track record of paying guys after career seasons. Look no further than Daron Payne. His fifth year was exercised, but the team didn’t extend him before last season. And then he had 11.5 sacks. Young could still get paid. |

Don't think we can rule out taking an edge rusher somewhere in the first few picks now.
