I think Shanahan is on the hot seat in Denver, and this latest gaffe doesn't help his cause very much.

You can call it balls, I say using a 3rd rounder on a RB who was slated to go in the 6th or 7th round plain dumb.

I agree with you that 1 year isn't too long, but it just seemed to really drag on and on... I think to most it probably felt more like 2 years because every week and even into camp this year they kept saying he's right around the corner from coming back.

My problem with holding on to players like Barrow or Taylor Jacobs is they are taking up a valuable roster spot and salary cap space that could be used for a young developing player like the next Antonio Pierce or the next James Thrash. Gibbs' coaching staff is great at developing young talent. They do not have to be high draft picks. Keeping a guy like Taylor Jacobs just because he is a higher draft pick (2nd round) is exactly what I was referring to that Snyderratto can never admit to being wrong and just moving on. They take forever to cut certain guys that are a higher investment and have done nothing on the field in years...like Jacobs. Ladell Betts was in that same category, but he had a great year last year and is playing awesome this preseason. Jacobs continues on the same path, this time he hurt his toe in his sleep.

Regarding the Broncos and them cutting their draft picks....you need to put it into perspective ...when you have a talented squad, it is not easy for draft picks to make the team, especially anyone drafted lower than in the first round. The redskins had the same situation during their powerful super bowl years in the 80-90's. I am sure the New England patriots draft picks this year will have the same problem.
What is bad is if you have a losing team with no depth and your draft picks continue to fail.
The true measure of success is making the playoffs and winning a superbowl, NOT if your draft picks make the team. The Denver press and fans should shut up and enjoy rooting for a playoff team. They could have it worse....like only seeing the playoffs once in 12 years.

In the Champ/Portis trade subject I believe the messurement will depend in how this year first round pick plays out (rogers) if he turns out to be all that, Washington got the better end of tha deal. Right now I say you're about even because you have a great back something you haven't been able to develop since davis but Davis wasn't that good of a back on your team (he did tear up Dallas D year after year I'll give you that but he didn't do much more, his best year was with the Panthers)

And Denver hasn't been able to produce a good CB. In fact, the real reason is that the broncos needed a great CB more than a great RB they have wasted first round picks in bust CB. Washington on the other hand has have the same problem at RB. So the Broncos new they could develop an average RB and turn him in to a quality RB and stop with the CB problem they have had.

Now If rRgers turns out to be a shout down corner and with springgs there you have a great secondary and a great HOF pace RB, and denver will have a great CB and a good/average RB that will get the job done but won't excell as portis did when he was there.

Now on the Clarett subject I agree with the cut sometimes you have to take your loses and learn form the mistakes you made, we just cut last year 2nd round pick T Jacob Rogers after 1 desapoting season and a injury plague preseason wich ended with an season ending surgery (he could have played and have the surgery at the end of the season).

Parcell just couldn't trust him he didn't take the pain, he didn't had the heart, he just had raw talent as clarett has but not the head and the vision, they think that beacuse they we're selected high they can cut them some slack, they don't get that becasue they we're selected higher they have to work harder and show more so they can prove why this team tought they we're worth more than the other 600 or 700 players after them.

And Rogers hurt us more beacuse of his signing bonus his hole 2005 season injury settlement and the 2004 season wich he just played 4 snaps thats like 3 mill going to the trash can, they made the good tough decision both of just let it go and "don't keep making good money turn 2 bad money"

I have to dispute your take on Stephen Davis.

He had two seasons in Washington where he went over 1400 yards. He went for 1405 yards in '99 with 17 TDs, and 1432 yards in 2001 with 5 TDs. Both of those seasons are the two best seasons yardage-wise in a single season by a Redskin back. He also topped 1300 yards in 2000 with 1318 yards and 11 TDs.

His best season yardage-wise may have came with Carolina, but prior to that he was a very productive back for the Redskins and currently ranks 3rd overall in team history with 5790 yards.

You're right the 99an '00 season were his most productive I wouldn't count the '01 season as verry productive because of the low amount of TD, but you're defently right he had great tenure in washington and could have racked up more if he didn't got injured that much.

I saw he only played 2 full seasons since he enter the league, And those 3 first years he didn't start also hurt his stats sheet a lot.
