Re: The Dirtbags
what was the deciding factor is that d-line man back in those days were so small, 270 to 280lbs, and when the hoggs for example, jacoby was the biggest and he was 300 or 310. when the dline man started getting bigger the oline man had to adjust to make it in the NFL. the only team I see that is the exception to that rule is the broncos and maybe KC. They use alot of stretch plays that uses the lines athletic ability rather than brute strength. That wont fly in the NFC east. you know it and I know it. thats why these teams are getting LBs that can run like DBs. They can cover alot of ground. and these safeties now are huge. Taylor is LB size and runs like a corner. The whole NFL is getting bigger. But you have got to have speed in todays NFL defenses.

Re: The Dirtbags
I for one do think it's retarded that there is an option to have a cowboys helmet for an avatar on this site.
I don't come here to trash talk with the likes of you. I come here to discuss with fellow Redskins fans, KNOWLEDGABLE FANS. If you eliminated all grabbing of any kind from the game, like you're suggesting, scores would be 3-0, 7-3, 6-3 every single game in every single week. You know nothing. |

Re: The Dirtbags
i havn't even said anything about all the grabbing. I think there are foolish holding penalties called in the NFL. But you have to call the obvious ones. They are trying to eliminate the holding and contact with the DBs to increase scoring, dont know if that has worked yet haven't read any stats to support it. There is now way you can try and stop holding and pulling down, there would be a penalty on every play if they did call the holding and pulling down that goes on. I think they do a pretty decent job for what they have to deal with on the field. I wouldn't want to be out there with 300lb+ line man running at me, linebackers running over me to get to the ball. QBs throwing darts at my head to hit the receiver across the middle. Oh, sorry you aren't talking to #56 fanatic are you, you talking to DALLAS guy right? if your talking to me, then refer to the above.

When I watch a Football game, I love to focus on what I consider to be the heart of the Sport and that is line play. To me there is nothing like watching a pulling Guard bend a Blitzer in half with a well angled and well timed block. When a lineman holds - and here I am talking about pulling a D lineman down or sideways after the o lineman has been beat, I am not talking about grabbing his pads over his chet an locking the man down tight - all it means is that he has been beat. How many holding calls negate long runs and scoring plays because an O lineman got beat and held his opponent? Denver is constantly drafting and TEACHING O linemen how to play in space and move their feet while it seems most everybody else just draft miniature Apt buildings and teaches them how to hold and not get caught. |

I think the same would happen in the NFL if linemen were held accountable for holding infractions, unless you think hockey players are somehow smarter than Football players and O Lineman couldn't figure out how to change their style of play. |

Re: The Dirtbags
Hey. Easy now on 5 rings. He was just making a comment about holding. He wasn't trashing the Skins. He has been on here before and has been classy and made some astute observations. So take it easy.
The point I was making about 8 fingers isn't about holding. It's about the god awful casts that he has to wear, which don't look too comfortable AND that a broken thumb MUST be friggin' painful. And he has 2!! I imagine it limits his full ability in some way. Not for holding.... which EVERYONE does from time to time. |

While Jansen's broken thumbs certainly are a hinderance, I don't think anyone would rationally try to argue that the line would be significantly improved with just two more operable digits for Jansen to work with. Our undefeated start does tend to gloss over things over a bit, but not since the second half against Chicago has this line really taken over a game. For this team to continue it's unbeaten streak, the line play must get better. That means better pass protection, and more holes for Portis and Betts to go through. With more playing time and healthy starters, this O-line can be among the top five, but they're not quite there yet. |

Re: The Dirtbags
dblanche66, and That Guy,
thanks for the back up. This site has been a good place to talk football and NFC East Football. I do go to cowboys sites as well, but sometimes you gotta admit seeing GOOO COWBOYS!!!!! about 50 times gets old. I understand that people will at first wonder WTF! go to a Cowboys site, but I think most have been very open and reasonable once the first dagger has been thrown. |

Thats a mighty strong opion for someone that just joined this site this month...After 5RINGS joined actually. Theres no need to be a jerk. Having fans of other teams make sites like this better because it keeps everyone in check. As it is theres plenty of opinion that are made with the 'red glasses' on, and that takes away from an educated discussion way more than an opinion of a fan from another team.

Re: The Dirtbags
Fans from other teams are always welcome here, looks like we could use a refresher on the site guidelines, a little light reading as you're killing those last few hours at work on a Friday!
