More importantly, and please do not take this in a bad way, it seems that Snyder has taken page out of Jerry Jones book. After 3 consecutive 5-11 season with Dave Campo, Jones decided that in the best interest of the club that he needed to "release the reins" a bit. He hired Bill Parcells and surrendered a lot of the control that he had. The result was good and the talent level increased dramtically. Snyder has done something very similar with Shanny, and that is a smart move in my opinion. But based on your statement, failure is anything less than a Super Bowl. So every year, based on what you said, there are 31 teams that fail. And yeah, Shannahan has experience winning Super Bowls. But so does Parcells. And since the 1986 season how many Super Bowls has he won since? With the Pats, Jets or Cowboys? Shannahan won 2 Super Bowls with arugueably one of the greatest QB's to ever play the game. Since that QB left the NFL, Shannahan won only one playoff game, just one. And while that subject is in the air, how many coaches in the Super Bowl era have EVER won Super Bowls with 2 different teams? None is the correct answer. Guys like Parcells, Holmgren, Shula, Vermeil, Reeves and Gruden have made it to the SB with different teams. But none has ever WON Super Bowls with 2 different teams. Not saying Shanny won't get the job done, I am just saying if you are expecting "instant results" next season or even the following season, you may be just as disappointed as 2009. |

BTW the "how many coaches have won Super Bowls with two different teams" thing is a bit of a straw dog. "It can't be done" and "it hasn't been done" are two different statements which should not be confused. I am not arguing that Shanahan will win a SB or anything like that, I'm am simply pointing out a logically flawed if common argument.

My point in my response to the gentlemens post was simply to recommend PATIENCE where Shanny and the new coaching staff are concerned. Zorn and his staff were not the only obstacle facing the Redskins. Just saying that by hiring Shanny and Allen, it is not like you "just add water" and viola, your in the Super Bowl next year. And as far as the "talent level" lost after Parcells, I disagree adamantly. Quite to the contrary that some of the most explosive players Dallas has were drafted by Phillips. Felix Jones Anthony Spencer Mike Jenkins Tashard Choice And keeping an eye on Victor Butler, he looks very promising. Just to name a few. |

So what's the speculation that Phillips is kept around because he's a puppet guy for Jones?

Re: Vikings Run Up The Score: Brooking vs. Pat Williams
Well, he is definitley a puppet for Jones. I mean how many owners actually come down to the sidelines during the game? As anal as everyone say Snyder is, I've never seen him on the sidelines. The only reason Jones extended Phillips an additional is year is so he's not a lame duck coach with just 1 year left. If the Cowgirls shit the bed again like they did to end the 2009 season, Phillips will be fired as quickly as Zorn was.

Re: Vikings Run Up The Score: Brooking vs. Pat Williams
I think Jerry considers himself(or wants to be) the headcoach to some degree, thus he has Wade as his DC, and Garrett as the OC. I don't see Wade as any more of a true HC then people considered JZ in his last weeks here.

Re: Vikings Run Up The Score: Brooking vs. Pat Williams
Wade is now 33-15 regular season with the Cowboys so it's hard to hate on that record. If Shanahan puts up a similar record I don't think you'll hear many complaints around here.

You better pass whatever you are smokin on! We could win a Superbowl with Shanny and there will still be complaints because we didn't get the 1st round bye or something.

^^ when you go 4-12 with 2 decent seasons sprinkled in over the past decade any fan base is going to complain.

All fans complain, listen to NFL radio enough and you would think every team in the league blows.

Take a look at the NFC East at the end of the 2008-2009 season...Dallas was a train wreck of dysfunction. Everyone here saw it, the team was falling apart from within and of the 4 teams in the division, the future was most bleak for Dallas. "Take out the trash", TO, Tank, Pac-Man all kicked to the curb. Then it fell to the coaches to get the team moving in the right direction. At the end of this season, now, Dallas is probably in the BEST shape in the division moving forward. You can bet that Phillips got a lot of the credit for the renewed team continuity and that had a lot to do with his extension. |

teams can play the way they want.the only thing i dont believe in is trying to purposely to hurt soemone.other than that it's fair game.i guess his mouth wrote a check his butt couldn't cash.he should have understood that he was really angry with himself and the defense that was going to stomp on the Vikings when they were down.
