That in bold is bothersome. Yeah coverage he been there. Hopefully he can overcome it, we need him making plays. I was just shocked not seeing it compared to the first couple games, I think overall the backer play has been...slow/average but obviously still getting the system straight. Play up front seems to be getting worse since the season has started which is scary.

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
I've been impressed by Carriker these last two weeks. He might be our best defensive lineman (Haynesworth-neutral).
I think the linebacker play has been excellent in every phase but screens. We can nitpick the fact that Andre Carter is always going to play a little stiff in space and that he's a better 4-3 DE than an OLB, but Carter is 31 and not a significant part of the future of this team. Wouldn't have been much a part of the future if this was still a 4-3. The defensive line hasn't been very good, but we still have an ace in the hole (Haynesworth), Carriker looks like a good pickup, and if all we need to do is ask Golston to rise to the occasion and be average, I think he'll eventually pick up the system. He's flashing playmaking ability already, which is good. He just has a ways to go. Kemo is a big weakness. I mean, eh, I think he'll be more healthy and A LOT more explosive next year. Right now, we can play Anthony Bryant and Haynesworth equal time and get better performance. Kemo and Jarmon both had significant injuries next year and I'm not worried about the DL long term.

Houston was a coming out party for him. Big time active. This past week, yeah, probably our best linemen. Albert, if he wanted to, could be massive I think.

The defense is clueless with little to no talent. Exceptions being Orackpo, Landry, Haynesworth, and an aged Fletcher that is out of position. The rest of the defense is average to below talent, and yes I do mean every corner.. Nobody knows what they're doing from play to play out there and it shows. Hence the inability to stop a drive and get off the field, or stop a team when they are going for 3rd and long! The offense is aged and just about equally individually talented. We have no playmakers at skill positions except QB,TE. WR, RB are completely embarrasing. Portis should be released after the flop he took in the middle of the field with no contact and not punching in the TD from the 3. WR... What WR? We don't have any. F'ing embarrassing.. The Skins need to clean house of ALL these old losers ( Doughty, Carter, Portis, Rabach, EVERY WR, etc.) and let some new blood make these mistakes. These old bastards that have made a career of being on losing Redskins teams need not be here. Let the youth learn from their mistakes and growing pains of the transitions on O and D. I'm sick of the same assholes giving the same shitty performances and in turn the same excuses for failure to succeed.

Really? Because, I think I saw what I saw and what I saw was our defense get its shit pushed in by the f'ing Rams without S. Jackson for much of the game. But hay, you have the numbers on your side. No, wait, you don't.

Well, of course I do. You can't be possibly be taken seriously thinking otherwise.

I think we've got the worst coached defensive team in the league! Who tells our cornerbacks to play so far off the receivers? Why is our nickel defense so bad now? Why didn't we add another cornerback for this year?

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
Fire Hasslett now!!! London Fletcher takes a beating cause the guards come right out on him!! Instead of in a 4-3 where he had a pair of 2 techs slanting and pinching in front of him for protection. What a freaking joke this d is!!!!!!

I have been quiet until now, but this is way wrong. Our LB's play has not been excellent except for screens. I watched the Rams game again last night and only to watch the defense. Our LB's are not playing excellent except for screens. On Steve Jackson 1st TD for example the left OLB and DE were hooked, they blew containment and the left ILB was blown up the RG. On several other plays and not just in this game the OLB's are not setting the edge well. The DL and LB's arenot playing well together. There is a huge gap left between the DE and OLB on runs around end. Our DE are getting hooked to easy. Use your stats and feel good about them. I am not a huge stats guy. I watch the play on the field and our defense is not playing well tegther as a unit. |

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
I'm not for firing Haslett at this point and I don't think we'll end up as bad defensively as we have been the past couple of weeks...but Haslett, you'll recall, wasn't Shanahan's first choice. Will be interesting to see if he's able to lure his first choice over next season

First of all, it's not that uncommon to give up 20 points in a half. It happens 4 or 5 times per week in the NFL. The Texans actually had just done it to the Colts the week before. That 133 rushing yards comes out to 3.6 yards per carry. Someone can try to convince me that's good (It'd be great if we had not let Jackson go for 42 and a TD on us -- 9 rushes for 16 yards on all of Jackson's other carries, btw), but I'm unconvinced. 7-16 third down conversion is about league average. We don't know how good the Rams offense will look. This might look like a really bad figure at the end of the year (bottom three or four offensive unit), but probably just "meh". We were 0-8 on passing third downs. That's bad vs. anyone. A 30 pt giveaway necessarily requires that you count the drive that started on the 3 yard line after the Moss turnover. I don't know. Seems to me like it would be unreasonable to expect a team to come away with no points from there. Of course, the Rams had first and goal at the one at the end of the first half and didn't score, so the defense had to have figured out something in that situation.
