The problem starts with society , not the NFL or Roger Goodell .

I think it's safe to say the coaches made the right call in keeping Redd over this guy.

Man, if the Vikings end up cutting him(in real life) because of child abuse, that'll be a huge stain on his all-time great resume. I wonder if the public noise would ever get to the point where he would actually be banned from the Hall? Off-field actions aren't supposed to play a part in the voting, but if the public outcry gets bad enough, who knows?

I still think that we should have kept Redd and Seastrunk. Oh well, boo hoo for me.

The same way PSU fans defended (and still do) Joe Paterno. These people don't give two fucks about child abuse unless it impacts their own family. In fact, chances are they don't give a fuck about anything unless it's about them. It's the "ME" generation and our politicians are leading the way.

I almost hate to say it but for the most part it seems to be a much more common problem in the NFL. Most likely from sheer numbers seeing as how you have ~60 players under contract at any given time on 32 teams. Compare that to a league like the NBA where you have 15 players per team on 29 squads.

As far as the NBA is concerned their most high profile case right now is Greg Oden who hasn't seemed to have been formerly suspended but by the same token hasn't been signed by anyone so take that for what its worth. Though it should be mentioned that Oden admitted to punching his victim to police. So we'le see how that goes.
Judge grants Greg Oden delay in domestic violence case - ESPN
Quote:
In the arrest report, Oden told police he had "punched her in the face" during an argument that had "gotten out of control."
The NHL's poster child for this dometic violence crusade is none other than former Cap Varlamov whose case seems to fall in that Big Ben category of something happened but we're not entirely sure what the hell it was.
Semyon Varlamov, Avalanche goalie, sees charges against him dropped - The Denver Post

Regardless its a cluster. Being called a wife beater or child abuser is among the worst labels you can assign to a human being. Its just below the next tier of rapist and pedophile. So on one hand it shouldn't be taken lightly. However the NFL hasn't exactly shown urgency when dealing with clear cut evidence. For example:

-Rice admitted to punching his fiance even before the tape was released to the public.

- Greg Hardy who was found guilty of assault back in July, has yet to be disciplined by the league.

- Peterson has admitted to striking his child and photos of the aftermath regarding the childs injuries have been released.

In short forget the cases within the he said-she said Bermuda triangle. We're talking about inaction on cases with clear cut evidence that have not been dealt with by the league in a timely manner. If the league can't handle the lay ups, how can they be expected to handle the more complicated cases?

Agreed ,the players who have been convicted no question ,the NFL and the teams should take action and be consistent with that action .

It's pretty evident by their actions. No assumptions are needed.

Re: Around the League: Week 2

I'd like to know what percentage of all Punts and active Kick Off plays have penalties on them. I'd set the over and under at 70%.

Hah, that's not good enough these days.

Everyone wants the Court of Public Opinion to reign supreme.

That is... as long as The Court isn't focused on you and your own...

Yup.

Everyone's quick to click like on facebook and retweet on twitter. Because it's easy.

Actually standing by your own morals is much harder.

It's not just the fans... the NCAA quietly lifted most of the sanctions again PSU the day after the Peterson stuff broke. Good timing on their part.

As much as everyone crows about the importance of morals, few seem to actually stand by them. Especially when money is involved.
