Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
One of the comparisons for RGIII that is most suited to him is Drew Brees. Same stature, similar arm strength and pocket presence. Don't fall into the lazy comparisons of Mike Vick and a smaller Cam Newton based on his athleticism and other 'obvious' comparables. In the pros he will be more of a Brees/Rodgers type meaning using his legs to extend plays vs. a tuck and run QB.

Bottom Line - With an RG3, the possibilities are endless, and the ceiling is too high for us to see. I know I sound like a frikkin homer, but I really want a QB in DC. And I finally want us to go all in on a good prospect, and just go for it. Last edited by Mechanix544; 01-08-2012 at 01:42 PM. |

I disagree with that statement slightly. You dont need a QB like Vick, but the QB needs to be able move around. Rogers, Drew Brees, Rothlisberger, Dalton. Most of the QB's have the ability to extend the play and make throws on the run. What RGIII brings is that ability plus the ability to beat you with his legs. Look at Cam Newton. He has been exceptional this season. If you can get a guy that can make all the throws in the pocket as well as out of the pocket plus run like he can, I dont see how you can pass that up. Plus the kid is extremely football smart. Cam Newton is going to make the Panthers a playoff team year in and year out. They lost so many games because the D couldn't sustain the early game intensity and gave up 4th quarter leads. When they get healthy on D and add some pieces, they will be dangerous. |

But, RGIII isn't just a pure runner. He's got plenty of other strong QB skills, so it won't be just a tuck and run situation. He's going to be able to extend plays in similar ways to pass the ball down the field. |

Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search
Cam had an amazing season. I'd love him to be my QB, its like he doesn't get injured with all the hits he takes. Griffin on the other hand has been injured a lot in college.
The likelyhood of getting back to back cam newton-esque seasons from QB's is very unlikely if you ask me.

As for Sam Bradford's 'digression', he was besieged by injuries, was in an offense ill suited to his strengths and has no weapons until Brandon Lloyd came about via trade. Casserly had an interesting scenario for Manning.. Manning to the Cards, Kolb gets cut. How would that affect the QB field this offseason and where does he slot in general (not Redskin specific)? I think he goes to the top of the list above Flynn and Hoyer, slightly ahead of Orton in terms of veteran QB.

IDK, I really didn't think too much of Kolb and his bad year with the Cards didnt help him. I think he's just going to be a glorified backup maybe another Grossman or close to it. I'd pass on him and take either Flynn or the backup for N.E. then go for a QB in the draft for development and future. |
