Re: Redskins, Cowboys could go “nuclear” over cap mess
I wonder how much the NFL owners victory over the players in the CBA give birth to the arrogance that led to this mess?

Re: Redskins, Cowboys could go “nuclear” over cap mess
In order of likelihood:
1. We get nothing overturned. Senator Durbin gets involved. 2. Private settlement. This year's penalty remains. 2nd half of penalty, next year's is waived. 3. Completely overturned. No compensatory picks. Senator Durbin gets involved. 4. Completely overturned. Compensatory picks awarded. Issue dropped with stern warning from NFLPA. |

Looks like compensatory picks will be given out today during the owner's meeting.

Re: Redskins, Cowboys could go “nuclear” over cap mess
In unrelated news, the NFL has announced it has seized the Redskins remaining 2012 draft picks and distributed them amongst New York teams with names that end in "Giants" as punishment for their defiance against The Supreme Overlord NFL Management Council.

I still don't understand how the Bears dumping almost $35 mil of Pepper's salary is not seen as a competitive advantage.

I was going to joke and say the limit was $10mill or more but your right the Bears dumped $35mill and no penalty. The whole punishment looks shady when you add all the teams who reworked contracts and saved money but only the two teams who are in the same division as the owner who levied the punishment gets punished? |

I looked into it more, his charged salary for that year was around 20 million, and the year before with Carolina he earned 19 million, so it wasn't much of a change

Re: Redskins, Cowboys could go “nuclear” over cap mess
That's still a 15 million dollar difference. If a player had a 20 mil cap hit in 2010 and a 5 mil cap hit in 2011, wouldn't you be saying they did the same thing we did? A 15 million dollar difference is still big. I think the reason we got punished and the Bears didn't was because John Mara doesn't give a crap about the Bears and we are his division rivals.

Re: Redskins, Cowboys could go “nuclear” over cap mess
But according to that graphic, the Bears took a 34.9 million cap hit that year and this is the highest compared to the rest of the years in the contract. I am not well versed in cap details, but I see this as an unfair competitive advantage, since the Bears were able to sign one of the top DEs in the league and take a 35 million cap hit during the uncapped season.
