Good idea.

Let's run a 3-4 defense and put a guy in who only does one thing. One of the main pros of the 3-4 is that the OLBs can rush and drop so it makes protections schemes harder to coordinate. Putting in a "rush specialist" essentially mitigates that advantage.

I get bashed for saying we should get another pass rusher opposite kerrigan and its he's an overpriced bad FA (who is third in the NFL in the past 3 years in sacks, and gets fumbles and recoveries). But you two are in the Nnamdi boat??? Really? The guy hasn't done squat and look how much he was asking to be paid. Man to man--he sucks. Zone--he sucks. Press zone--he sucks. I know we need CBs, but damn you all don't realize how bad he's been. He's the Haynesworth of CBs
First of all, I said we should pick him up to be a FS. There are a number of cases out there where top CBs that are past their prime have fared very well as safeties (see Charles Woodson with Green Bay).

Second, Nnamdi was basically the best CB in football before coming to the Eagles. Haynesworth was a one hit wonder and obviously a big pr*ck.

Third, no team is going to sign Nnamdi to a big contract. And I didn't suggest this at all.

Fourth, there is a big difference between having a veteran DB adjust to being a FS over an offseason, and bringing a pass rusher who has played as a 4-3 DE his whole NFL career and expect him to adjust to the 3-4 scheme in a matter of days.

Your missing my point. We need an edge rusher on passing downs rite now to make up for Orakpo. We sign him and let him do that than release him next year when Orakpo comes back. It isnt legos but it isnt as black and white as you make it out to be either with the 4:3 3:4. We do have packages now with four down lineman. Babin is certainly an upgrade opposite Kerrigan rite now and it would give Haz alot of flexibility in those situations.

Babin would be an upgrade if we were playing the 4-3. And I am sure he'd prefer playing in a system that he has played his whole NFL career than trying to adjust to a new scheme. Schemes do matter, just ask Andre Carter.

i understand he's not a solution. i'm not saying whether or not i want him here.

i'm just saying, he'd be helpful on 3rd downs rushing the passer opposite of kerrigan, that's all. just a stopgap guy for these final weeks. in passing situations only.

The question isnt whether Babin wants to come here its whether we should pursue him. That being said - we do use a 4:3 sometimes - 3rd and long - rob jackson is not scaring qb's rite now hence our lack of sacks and how incredibly long opposing qb's are holding the ball - not good anytime but especially with our secondary. Babin would be used as a nickel pass rusher - four lineman and only in those situations.
Again i dont know what Babin wants but i know what i want. Someone who can pressure the qb in third and longs and eliminate the big play which has plagued us thru the air all year.

Jason Babin: Five potential landing spots - NFL.com

5 teams that make some sense for him.

Really doubt he lands here. Just a nugget from a Green Bay writer...

Regardless, Babin is an extremely talented player who will no doubt be scooped up by another team once he clears waiver. Don't expect the Green Bay Packers to be that team. Babin is listed as 6'3", 267 pounds and an ideal end in a 4-3 system. The Packers base defense is a 3-4 system. Would it be impossible for Babin to make the transition? No. But I don't think he would be able to successfully do it in five weeks, nor do I think he's interested in making that change.

Green Bay not considered a potential landing spot for DE Jason Babin - 620 WTMJ - Milwaukee's Source for Local News and Weather

Matty the only transition if he came here would be standing on the sidelines more often. As far as using him as an edge rusher in passing situations it would be exactly what he has done his entire career and he does it better than Rob Jackson on his worst day.
Edit: he doesnt want to be a rental player im sure or a "specialist" used only on certain downs but if he were willing we would be crazy not to take him for this final push.

This sounds retarded.

Cleveland Browns: Jon Gruden not offered part of team - NFL.com

Hire a coach for a SEC football team, and get part ownership in a NFL team? ....lol

I can't honestly say I have noticed us play a 4-3 alignment all year. Has it really happened?

Well in a nickel package its four lineman - im not a coach or well versed enough in the x's and o's to tell you whether thats a true 4:3? However i know there are packages/schemes when Kerrigan and Jacksons job is to rush the passer from the outside - and all im saying is on those plays i would rather see Babin than Jackson.

Re: Around the NFL...Week 12 Style

From don banks si power rankings

14. Washington (5-6) (18) -- Any typical year, Andrew Luck or even Russell Wilson might be running way ahead in the Offensive Rookie of the Year debate. But as of this moment, I don?t know how I could vote for anyone other than Robert Griffin III, and I say that knowing the Redskins are under .500 and the Colts and Seahawks aren?t. In Washington?s back-to-back wins over the Eagles and Cowboys, Griffin has simply been in a league of his own. If he follows it up with another boffo showing against the Giants at home Monday night, sweeping through the division, just give him the award right now.

Ok I got ya. 4-3 literally means 4 down linemen with 3 LBs. Just rushing four doesn't make it a 4-3.

Five 4-3 teams that make sense for a 4-3 player?
