What does Ladell Betts do really well?

Nothing. He is good at most things. I am tired of a good #2 RB.

Uh Oh, prepare to take the wrath of the Betts lovers. People want the team to get younger at every position except RB cause mediocracy after Portis is exceptable. They fill in fine.

and for the record....I said I like Mason. but I also said the team needs to look at getting a younger RB no matter who it is. If Mason is not the man then so be it.

What wrath can a Ladell Betts lover really bring?

I doubt it. It's been beaten to death.

Re: Training Camp Updates:

RT position seems to be becoming a possible pressing need.. All three RTs are injured I'm just glad that this is only beginning of the preseason, not season.. Although Zorn did said Heyer will be 100% by tomorrow (or next day?) and that Bridges's injury is just low ankle sprain.. Still, this makes me nervous..

And there's really not much to talk about.

Betts is making the team, Mason is a longshot.

Re: Training Camp Updates:

I find the hostility and negativism toward one player so interesting. Is it simply because he was not drafted? People comparing a 2-3 yrs player against 3 players with 7 yrs in the league. I guess everyone expected Mason with the limited playing time that a 4th RB could get would get to learn how to block in his first yr out of the gate in Gibbs system. Then changing to a WCO learn how and who to block all over again under a new system. I mean people have made excuses for Campbell...right. He's been in 4 or 5 different systems since his college days, He's having to learn a new offense every yr, He stuggles because of the O-line play. I guess these factors don't count for a young undrafted RB like Mason.

If I remember correctly Portis was having trouble not only in preseason but during the regular season with his blocking scheme. The team even kept Sellers back in order to help with the blocking in a couple of games and both missed on a few blocks leaving JC to get sacked, but no animosity for a 7 yr player for whiffing on a few blocks. I remember Zorn mentioning Portis would get the blocking down. Am I to presume that Mason being a 4th RB with limited practice time would do as good or better then those ahead of him? No he would not. I also love the ...."Mason got all his yards against camp scrubbs." Yes he might have but he had camp scrubbs blocking for him as well. Which means basically you guys also don't put a whole lot of faith in our first line O-line to be able to create a hole for him to run through because all I keep hearing is "Mason would not have done that with the first line offense."

I'll ask again, Where is all the animosity for the other players who sucked? Thomas only got in on a few plays and according to JC he couldn't trust DT cause he would run the wrong routes sometimes. Kelly was injured and sat out. Westbrook.....if anyone deserves the negativity on this team it should be him, what has he done in 3 yrs except sit on the practice squad taking up space? Rabach, could the team get anyone else who is under sized and got bowled over by teams utilizing the 3-4 defense? Rogers......as much as I'm rooting for him he seems to be another Springs, a CB who gets injured every yr and is only in half the season. Yet no animosity for Springs either. Heyer was an undrafted rookie the same yr where's the animosity towards him? He should have been camp fodder also. Unless he's completely worked on his run blocking over the summer he will suck at it and be one dimensional....pass blocker only.

Mason must be the person people either love him or love to hate him. and if the latter is the case I feel sorry for Colt. Oh, wait...he was drafted right.

Re: Training Camp Updates:

It's got nothing to do with hostility, it's just the simple truth. He's a long shot and Betts is pretty much a lock, are you denying that?

No I'm not denying that. but is it difficult for people to say Mason is a good runner but won't make the team because of the RB's in front of him or is it easier to simply say Mason sucks. Mason can't block. Mason wouldn't do as well against a first line defense. Mason won't crack anyone elses team. etc. etc.

Re: Training Camp Updates:

and....if the team had not brought in 2 smaller speedier scat back type RB's and simply brought in Mason alone I would say he has a chance. With all the players on the team who can KR/PR on the team I think Rock is expendable, but with the team looking for a change of pace back I see Rock getting replaced with one of them before he gets let go for a RB who would be doing the same thing as Betts and Portis.

Re: Training Camp Updates:

I like Mason. No one is saying he doesn't have talent or doesn't deserve a shot. Even Zorn likes him. He just doesn't like him better than Betts. Betts has been getting great reviews all camp and for good reason. The coaches aren't making it up because they owe him anything. They didn't draft him. Don't take my word for it, read what the reports from the coaches about Betts have been saying. Mason has potential to be good in this league, I don't deny that and have no reason to, but when people want to cut a proven back that the coaches seem pretty high on just so a preseason favorite can make the team and project him as the next Barry Sanders even though 2 other teams didn't see enough in him to make them think they should "lock him up", it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I think right now he's at a disadvantage because I think the coaches are looking for more of a speed back. That's why we brought Alridge and Dorsey in. Some good players are going to be cut, you can't keep them all, and with Portis and Betts on the team, who I think the coaches give a longer playing life to than the fans, what exactly would Mason do? Sit on the bench until they retired? He has not yet proven he can play ST's and he is being given the opportunity. What more can he ask for? Standout on teams Mason and you may make the team.

Re: Training Camp Updates:

From Redskins.com twitter page on today's morning practice-

Jeremy Bridges sitting out with an ankle sprain from yesterday's scrimmage, but Heyer and Mike Williams are back on the field practicing.

Orakpo practicing with the D-lineman today.

Anthony Alridge out today with a sprained toe from the scrimmage.

Santana Moss still out, nursing that hamstring.

Devin Thomas not a full go, but had his helmet on and participated in some drills.

Re: Training Camp Updates:

I would love to see either Dorsey or Aldridge make this team. We need a little speed scat back/ return guy to change the pace sometimes. I do like Mason but dont see a roster spot for him unless Betts or Rock gets injured. If some other player(s) show they can perform well on ST, Rock may be on the way out.

It looks like Collins is going to be getting the short end of the playing time stick versus Colt.

Whether it is by design from coaches or instinctive reaction, QB Jason Campbell is checking down to RBs and TEs most of the time. Conversely, QB Colt Brennan likes to take more shots down field and the result is not always positive.

9:50:32 am
Rookie QB Chase Daniel appears to be improving with each practice. His arm strength and accuracy are developing nicely.

2:56:06 pm
QB Todd Collins just threw his second TD of the scrimmage. The last was to WR Keith Eloi who did most of the work by breaking several tackles before diving in for the score.

2:55:22 pm
QB Jason Campbell is working with second and third string players and he looks average at best.

2:54:23 pm
There are some who are practice players and then there's rookie QB Chase Daniel. Daniel who has struggled the first week of camp led the second offense to a score against the Redskins first defense.

2:35:21 pm
QB Colt Brennan was unable to move the second offense. Brennan dropped the ball as he was preparing to throw deep.

couple small quips from cbs' camp updates

He then explores drafting a QB which would learning from scratch instead of making Collins step up. I think the team is seeing him a simply an older vet to fill in if someone goes down.

I know he (Collins) was not planned to play today according to the team but when thrown in either he had a bad day or he simply was not ready cause to me it sounded like he struggled today. Until the end of practice. Brennen sounded to have had a pretty good day as well as Daniel. Perhaps it's time to get younger there also. Just saying.
I don't think that you really want to put Collins in at number 1 at all unless you're going into playoff chances and Campbell gets hurt. While he hasn't had his body worn down from being a backup for so long, I think that at this point you're looking to see what your younger guys can bring to the table.. whether they can lead a team, whether to use them as trade bait, or whether to cut them.
