I think he'll be tagged. My guess is players across the league will be more willing to play under the franchise tag in a year that the salary cap is down - in anticipation of getting a bigger payday next year. |

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
Of course you have to tag BS and continue to work out a long term deal.

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
Agree, he's the anchor of that line and especially with a new QB coming in

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
He'll be the highest paid guard, here or somewhere else.
If he's willing to play for the WFT for ~$15mil per year then I hope they get it done. If I were him though, I would hold out for more. He could net $18mil under the franchise tag, then get his big pay day next offseason when the cap goes up. |

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
No guard is worth more than 10M AAV or a top 10 draft pick .. in my opinion. You can find plug and play guards in FA. Each year we seem to find good IOL production at a good value.
2019 FA - Ereck Flowers 2020 FA - Wes Schweitzer Im fine with tagging or signing Scherff, hes a good player, probably in the top 10 of Gs .. but giving any guard 14-15M per is not an ideal situation. if im giving 15M or more .. its for a QB, LT, WR, CB, pass rusher. Thats it. 15M on a 185M cap = 8% of your entire cap. For a guard. For a guard that needs to just stick their fat short arms out there and grab some shoulder pads and anchor for 2.3 seconds. Sign LT Villanueva or somebody for 15M per. At least LT have much more job responsibilities than a guard. A guard is basically a chair. An obstacle. Just stand there and try not to get pushed back to much for 2.3 seconds. Can you manage that fat boy? God forbid we ask them to chip a guy or something. yeah .. we need to spend 15M on the rare occasion one of our fat guards needs to have enough awareness to chip a guy before locking onto his main assignment. His main assignment usually the other teams fat unathletic player lined up directly across from him. besides the run game sucked this year and every year. its not like we are opening running lanes or turning guys or getting push off the snap. --- edit 8% of cap not 12% .. sorry Last edited by SunnySide; 02-23-2021 at 02:54 PM. |

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
Our run game sucked because no team respected our passing game and they would just stack the box. I wouldn't pin this on the o-line.

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
If u let BS walk, who replaces him? We have bigger holes to fill at KEY positions.

2020 4th R - Shaadiq Charles Weve been preparing for this moment. Wes didnt impress and Shaadiq got hurt but I dont mind some growing pains at RG if that guy is lined up next to MOses and Roullier and it allows us to upgrade LT or LB. Would you rather have: - LB Lamonte David (assume 12M per) - 3rd R comp pick - Charles at RG - extra 3M in cap space OR - 30 year old Brandon Scherff at RG ----- We got the best years out of Scherff. Great teammate, great player. Its time. |

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
I like Scherff sometimes you pay a guy so everyone knows we pay our own. Wes Martin did play better at RG than LG two years ago if I remember rightly.

This. If he won't work out a long term deal on a more reasonable salary, tag and trade him. Wes Martin is depth --- and needs to make a jump to save his spot on the roster. Shaadiq Charles - let's see what we have here. Ketih Ismael - primarily a center, but he did fill in at RG in college. Maybe he can be the answer. Snag a FA. Spend a draft pick. But don't break the bank on Brandon. |
