... because his career from this point on will be defined by what he does at the quarterback position.

I don't think anyone will touch him if this injury is as bad as some say.

Serious lower back injuries are QB career killers. Wait and see I guess.

He won't be. We will be taking Von Miller at #10 and our defense will be a lot better for it. Especially RAK!!

Buh bye early first round if that's the case. Lots of questions about his mechanics and character already so one more red flag might torpedo his stock.

I'm not dead but this team is dead to me...but now that McCloughan is here they may have new life!

Jay Gruden = Zorny McSpurrier
Kirk Cousins = Next Grossman

It's not bad at all.
Stripe1973 RT @aublog: Michael Wilbon reported last night Newton had X-rays on lower back, came back negative.

Hooray?!?!

I like how this Andrew Perloff has the Skins picking a WR with their first pick. Wow, that would be the last position I would pick. Unless a franchise QB falls into the Skins lap at #10, they have to be thinking OL or DT I think. The often injured Malcom Kelly is still on the roster, in terms of big targets at WR. I say he gets one more off season to try to stay on the field and then he is outa here.

This has got to be a joke (regarding Blaine Gabbert), right? No way!

Yeah but keep in mind Shanahan's scouting philosophy. He doesn't really worry about poor mechanics so much. He looks at the players' best moments and then he determines whose best moments are...best and then says I can coach that guy to the best of his ability always.

So if, IF, we were to take a QB in the first round I guess the question is whose the best of the best when he's at his best...and who will be available

That scouting philosophy would probably explain why Shanahan traded for Donovan McNabb last year. When McNabb is "on" he is spectacular, so his "best" is way up there...

AND McNabb was available unlike some other guys whose "best" is way up there too - - such as P. Manning, T. Brady, D. Brees, P. Rivers A. Rodgers ...

Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?

When the draft is concluded, here are three names I will go looking for. If any two of them are on the Redskins' list, I will think they have had a good draft:

S. Wisnewski - - center - - Penn State (can also play guard?)

D. Sherrod - - offensive tackle - - Miss St

J. Powe - - defensive tackle - - Ole Miss

I usually don't say this, in fact, I dismiss it from my vocabulary, Quarterback without a doubt. This is the time to do it because the rookie will have to learn the offense.

What offense? The two step drop? I say best player available minus TE.

No one wants to give credit where credit is do, when Grossman took over the offense was productive.

The best player available would be IMO a QB. Maybe we can put it off for another season but the law of averages says if we are rebuilding, go for the QB now. Select a OL in the second round. Get free agents and draftees to fortify the defense.

Really, from what I remember DM5 was critisized mostly because of this 3rd down completion percentage. From what I observed, Rex was no better in that category.

It wasn't significantly better but the bottom line was it did improve under Grossman. I didn't look to deep at the numbers but in the final 3 games we had around four 3rd conversions per game. By the second half of the season we were lucky to get more then two with McNabb under center including going 0 for 10 in that Monday Night Blowout to Philly. Many of the games I'm looking at I'm seeing at most two 3rd down conversions.

The Tennessee game was our season high going 8 for 16 but the inability to finish drives when McNabb had all day to throw killed us. In fact the only reason we won that game was because of two dumb penalties on the part of Tennessee in OT.

By the way did you guys know that we were 2 for 10 against Houston while Houston was 6 for 14? WTF?
