Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7
one of the most important qualities in a backup qb is ball security. todd collins was an exceptional backup for us because he did not throw a single int (only 2 lost fumbles). in the turnover department, cousins doesn't have an uphill battle vs. rex (24 int, 9 lost fumbles in 17 games)

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7
Every NFL team has to have a quality backup quarterback. It also helps the development of a quarterback when he has a quality supporting cast ala Matt Cassel with 11-5 New England when Tom Brady went down with a season ending injury in 2008.

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7
MS talked about the QB split RG3/Crompton 80/20 that's right. Grossman/Cousins 50/50 I have a problem with this, only because Grossman will be showing/teaching Cousins all his bad habits & wrong reads.

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7
I mean, debates are mostly worthwhile but I'm not sure Cousins deserves 25 pages. Sure there's an opportunity cost to the pick, but it's not likely to be anything significant in the 4th round. As a comparison, the opportunity cost of Mike blowing up the defense when he arrived is metaphysically certain to surpass anything associated with the Cousins pick.
...but anywho, it's only May and we're all a little bored I reckon.

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7
Well the bigger the contract that a free agent gets when he leaves your team the higher the draft pick. No higher than a third round pick. I am speculating that they get a third round draft choice. Also, a team must lose more free agents then they gain.

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7
I think the point is, in a qb driven league, At the worst we got a guy who can compete and give us some type of backup for RGIII. And at best, a team needs their qb of the future, and none are in the draft, and Cousins looks awful good in the starts he gets.

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7
But we did just draft 21 guys these last three years so who knows. This team needed all the free agents signed the last two years. I wouldnt get to worked up about not getting compensatory picks.
