I’d be down with that but be prepared for warpath conspiracy theorist spouting that Jim Zorn is some sort of prophet.

Re: Name Reveal 2.2.22

The vast majority of fans relate the name commanders solely to the military etc .. and that very well may be what the team wants( if the do indeed go with the name)
There also is another slant to the name .. The city was named after George Washington the first President .. He was the Commander in chief of the country ( in peace time and war) ..
I could be totally wrong but the name could be a Nod to the First President.. just a thought

You mean the guy who owned slaves?

There are people already protesting any "nod" to our founders. So ... sadly ... that would take us from one frying pan to another.

Wait til they find out in American Indian culture before Europeans ever stood foot here that captured Indians were treated as slaves. Slavery was apart of American Indian culture. And Indians also had Africans slaves as well once chattel slavery was introduced to North America.

Also The America Indian were savages which committed unspeakable atrocities to each other long before any other stepped foot here.

All the more reason to not name a team after people. People by nature are fallible and therefore always assholes. Groundhogs however are pure and saintly

History will teach us that “Vikings, Raiders and Buccaneers” were just as ruthless and you don’t hear any complaints about them. Probably because SpongeBob and Disney made them cute lol

That may be true, but there are owners for other teams that show respect to their fans and employees or at the least don't bring shame and embarrassment consistently to their own team due to their pettiness. Leaving the DC team doesn't mean I am going jump onto another team that has crappy ownership, heck doesn't even mean I am jumping to another team at all, just that I am going to try not to be emotionally invested in this team.

The evidence indicates otherwise. There is no other owner who has a record of arrogance, sleazery, and just plain stupidity as Daniel Snyder.

And Daniel Snyder is not a jerk because he is rich. Were that so, then men like Warren Buffet would be reviled too. Snyder is a jerk because that is what he is.

I do not pretend to know why.

I am holding out my judgement until the name is announced but will say that if it is Commanders or Admirals I will be greatly displeased.

Re: Name Reveal 2.2.22

I am late to this thread, but many of the posts in the previous threads echo my personal opinion.

If the name does end up being the Commanders, even with or without the ridiculous seal / logo that may have been "leaked", then I am likely through with my fandom regarding this organization.

I had lots, lots of great times as a Skins fan, but unfortunately looking back it seems I had more bad times than good times. Please keep in mind, I am young-ish (37 years old), so was never really "around" to see this Franchise with a good owner and during "good times".

That is a shame. Most speak of the obvious greatness of the Gibbs era and for good reason. I am old enough to have watched the entire George Allen era which, while not nearly good as Gibbs', was pretty damn good in its own right.

Even Pardee, the coach between Allen and Gibbs, went .500, Better than nearly all of Snyder's coaches. In reality, 1971 to 1992 was a golden era.

Then the trifecta of doom arrived. Gibbs retired, we left RFK, and then Cooke died. Except for a few fleeting moments of joy here and there, it has been horrid.

I had Danny's number after the Marty/Jeff George debacles. But I hung on because it was still the Redskins.

Now even that is just about gone.
