Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.
Redskins would have made the playoffs for the next 3 years, pretty much guaranteed, but they never would have won a superbowl with Manning at QB.

In the comeback game against San Diego, the Denver D played a big role in keeping the game within reach and put up some points themselves in the second half. I don't think our defense is able to do the same. The only thing that makes consider that Manning would have been able to win here is that as good as our offense was this past season, it wasn't very efficient. We were getting tons of offensive yards, but had a terrible 3rd down conversion for the most part in the season and at times didn't do well in scoring in the redzone (see first game against the Giants). I wonder if Manning would have been able to overcome those inefficiencies. Talent-wise in offense, I think Manning could have been successful with the players we acquired.

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.
@donofriose and ruhskins: Would having Peyton help us become a team that could win a SB, even if like D says Peyton's own history isn't good? With Alfmo and Garcon and others we got, and Shanny and Bruce picking players in future years to build the team with?
Agreed Denver's D is way better than ours. QB play was so lacking for us until last season... I thought Peyton would never play at a high level again, but I agree he'd have a lot of success with our guys. |

Your football experience aside, there's just no reason to change the rule that requires a referee to penalize a blow to a QB's head. And don't tell me that there should be some judgment as to whether it might potentially cause an injury. The league is telling rushers to keep their damn hand off the QB's head and they're right. No judgement needed here, and no assault on integrity either. I'm also agreeing the league's attempt to limit the devastating hits receivers take as they receive the ball. Don't know whether their method is absolutely right, but I applaud their attempt at the killer "gangsta" hits by defensive players more intent on being a highlight on ESPN than actually making a good tackle. They've got to get rid of the headhunters for the good of the game, don't even tell me about integrity. As to helmet to helmet blows what I's seeing is that the refs almost always get it right. I know that there may be time the offensive player seems to lower his head and contributes to the helmet to helmet contact, but I'll run the risk of getting call wrong over continuing the epidemic of brain injuries that might kill football long before the lack of integrity you're worried about. As to your assertion that a quiet referee is the best referee, you're just absolutely wrong. The best referee is the one that gets the call right, not the one who eats his whistle... |

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.
Well Smith could do as much - Chiefs does have some weapons on offense with Bowe, Baldwin, Moeaki, McCluster, and Charles. I don't believe Smith will play great enough to win games for the team but I believe he will play well, just like he did with 49ers.

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.
Smith will be interesting in KC. Will definitely have better weapons than he did initially in KC (Bowe, Moeaki, and Charles). I don't know how good is the KC o-line; I believe Smith needs a good o-line to succeed. The biggest question will be the defense. KC had a good D when Crennel was their DC, they were pretty banged up last year, I wonder how they'll do this year.

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.
Smith seems like a classic Reid QB - good mobility, strong arm.
