Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
I agree. Gray is the one who looks bad in this. Everyone knows Zorn is fired...the Redskins are just acting proactively to move quickly on a new coach. The rules force them to interview minority candidates and they have several on staff. Gray should have declined until after the season, but if he was willing why would the redskins not get it out of the way now? Gray was not very loyal to Zorn and it could affect how other head coaches will view having him on thier staff.

Snyder didn't make a mockery of the Rooney rule, the Rooney rule is a mockery in and of it's self.

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
The Rooney rule itself is a bit of a joke at this point.
Whether a sham interview happens during the season or after, I don't see a big difference. Just more ammo for the Snyder haters if you ask me. Perhaps Gray was promised a spot on the new staff in exchange for the interview, or perhaps he really is plan B? |

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
Exactly...the spirit is a joke anyways. No one has been hired because of the Rooney rule. All it has done is actually put diversity at the forefront...that is a good thing but it hasn't directly led to anyone getting a job they wouldn't have before. so 100% of the time the spirit is trampled on. The rule begs for the spirit to be trampled on.

Anyways, Gray interviewing has put him in limbo as far as future coaching opportunities. Which leads me to believe that he's in line to stay with the Redskins. Why jeopardize your future and your reputation if you don't have something lined up? Gray is the scapegoat for the media and the rule, and Snyder used it to his full advantage to get the guy he wants. It's a win-win as far as Snyder's concerned. And to him, that's all that matters.

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
From all accounts it sounds as if Shanahan has a staff lined up and ready to go. It wouldn't be too hard to believe the new DC already pinpointed Gray as someone he would want. Who knows.

I'd be surprised if Gray is on the staff, but who knows.

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
This whole rooney rule spat is being circulated by Mike Florio. I wish everyday fans could look beyond the blind hatred that most media writers and opionist have for the Redskins owner.
Did you notice on PFT that Florio loves to bring up Redskins vs. Rooney Rule but doesn't even mention the Mike Holmgren hire in Cleveland and whether they followed the Rooney rule. Read between the lines people. We could be 16-0 and the media would still hate. If the Redskins become successful we would represent a Dark Empire/ villian of the NFL.

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
Well it's not the same situation with the Browns, because Jim Zorn is still employed by the Redskins as head coach. The Browns didn't have a President in place (though I think they did interview minority candidates)
