Re: Stadium Rumors

Please recall that when JKC offered to build a new facility right next door to RFK with his own money, the DC govt (including two different incompetent mayors) couldn't find a way to let him do that. It took almost 7 years of negotiating before JKC took his team to the suburbs because he wanted to have a stadium built with his name on it before he died. That didn't quite work out for him.

Somehow, I don't see Danny Boy having the patience or the political acumen and charm to work with those incompetent boobs for more than about 3 months. And in 3 months, the DC City Council can't decide if it is raining or not.

The problem with Fed Ex is the way that it was built. It was built fast and on the cheap because they wanted to get it done before Good Old JKC went to that big League Meeting in the Sky. That didn't quite work out.

Be a bit analytical here instead of emotional:

Fed Ex is a VERY large stadium with all the beauty and all the atmosphere of a portable toilet farm. Even Giants Stadium - built in that horrid locale - has a superior ambience to Fed Ex. As long as the Vet was still standing - and it isn't anymore - Fed Ex couldn't be considered the worst venue in the NFC. Now, it is one of the strong contenders for that infamous title. Maybe SF is worse; maybe Minnesota is worse; at the moment, New Orleans is definitely worse.

As long as the Raiders play in whatever they call their stadium this week, the Skins will not have to worry about being in the worst stadium in the league, but if an earthquake takes out Oakland...

It shouldn't be long before the Skins start thinking about/ planning for/ moving toward building a new stadium. Fed Ex is living on borrowed time.

Re: Stadium Rumors

SC, its good enough right now and danny is still paying off over 350mill in debt on the team, so i don't see it happening anytime remotely soon.

Re: Stadium Rumors

Fed Ex isn't by any means the prettiest stadium in the NFL but it is the most profitable and this is the main reason why I can't see the SKINs leaving anytime soon.

When the SKINs are playing well and that place gets rockin it can be a great homefield advantage. My problem with it has always been it's location and lack of character.

Actually, the Minnesota Metrodome is a great stadium for fans. It's small size (65,000) means every seat has great sight lines and is close to the field, compared to a behemouth like FedEx. The dome protects from bad weather plus it holds in the sound, an advantage for the 12th man.

The problem with the Metrodome is that it's a drag on the economics of pro sports. For the Vikings, there are not enough corporate suites to raise the cash to compete with Washington, Dallas, or Chicago's new Soldier Field, for talent. For the Twins, the Dome is just too big. They only draw about 30,000 fans per game when they are winning. They can't affort the rent so lose money. (They've become specialists at developing young, unknown talent knowing they will lose them to a big market team some day.)

The things that make the Metrodome so good for fans are killing the teams that call it home. The things that make FedEx so poor for fans, makes it a money machine for the Redskins to attract talent. This is why there are intense discussions between owners of small market teams and owners of big market teams. That's holding up a new labor agreement with the players association.

It's the game between the seasons, and it's almost as interesting as what happens on the field.

Re: Stadium Rumors

I really dont think there is a chance of moving to a new stadium. Look at the idiots now with the baseball team. They agree to one thing, then decide to start changing things, they are a bunch of idiots. Plus this place seats over 90K people and bring in crap load of money. Who cares about the ambiance of being downtown, who wants to see bums laying on the damn streets when you go in and leave the game. The stadium might be ordinary in design, but the 90K fans that scream there head off every game make it a very tough place to play for opposing teams. Plus, when we start winning on a regular basis, this place will be the WORST place for opposing teams. I went to the Dallas game, and it was so load I couldn't hear the guy next to me.

Re: Stadium Rumors

If this is a wish list thread then.....

I'd like a Stadium in Northern Virginia closer to Redskins Park [and me]
I'd like it to hold 125,216 people
Retractable Roof to allow real grass, close for bad weather and Super Bowls and to help hold sound even with open.

If this happens I get FREE tickets for my ideas

peace
