age, age and upside is the reason why we should all be happy.
Deion, Carrier, George, Smith, they were all past their prime

Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
I think that these have been great moves so far. I have noted that OL and LB must be addressed to complete the areas of need, but they are positions that are easier to fill than WR with what is available out there.
I see we are talking to the Jets about Abraham. I wonder if we can package Ramsey, Patten or Betts, and a draft pick from next year to get him?

A year ago for the same dollars probably wouldn't have made sense, but I think we gave him what he was going to end up getting somewhere else, just packaged differently. |

Great moves. We filled glaring holes on offense, which we desperately needed.
This is not 2000. In 2000, we signed the entire 1992 All-Madden team whether they really filled needs or not. |

Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
I think in 2000 Snyder wanted to do two things at once. Sign big names to help the team and sign big names to sell merchendise. As bad of a flop as the first part was, it did keep people coming to the stadium and buying skins stuff. Because of that, partly, we have plenty of money to pay for who ever we want now.

and because of that many people have deion jerseys that you can only use to stuff in a bottle with some kerosene and styrofoam.

Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
I like the moves purely from a talent perspective, but like 12th man I have concerns w/chemistry, not just between players. I hope that all Danny, Vinny & Gibbs are really on the same pg. & the danny's not just using his power & $ to sign big against the advice of the coaching staff. But Gibbs has not been adverse to signing vets in the past & as already pointed out, we did get young guys.
B. Loyd worries me a bit & I hope Patten can stay. I also hope we can re-sign Clark, but maybe they acted quickly w/archuleta cause talks were going nowhere w/clark. Clark seemed to be a good guy & he turned his career around here. I hate to see guys leave that have done a good job & I don't think its good for the team to lose them, even if their replacement is better on the field. Its just not good for chemistry, but we'll have to see. If it weren't Gibbs I would be more concerned. |

Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
i think they are all smart moves, and I am more optimistic this time since we are keeping our core and our coaching staff intact, more or less. If this were a new coaching staff and the big moves again, i'd be more worried.

I have been asking myself all day, "What does David Patten think about all of these new receivers?"

Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
Well, I voted 'other', because there's still work to be done in my mind. Though after voting that way, I realized the question did contain the words "so far." My bad.
I'm a little hesitant about Brandon Lloyd. I agree we needed not one, but two upgrades at wide receiver, because I think Thrash and Taylor Jacobs are jokes. But dammit, I'm tired of parting with draft picks. Doesn't anybody else feel like we might have been able to find a wideout on par with Lloyd's abilities without giving up a 3rd and 4th rounder? Randle El is the real deal, and I'm ecstatic that he's a Redskin. Those that point to his modest career stats have to remember that he comes from a 'run first, run second and throw only when you absolutely have to' type of offense in Pittsburgh. His value in returning punts and kicks will be pivotal, too. Adam Archuletta was also a need, and it's good to see the Skins having an eye for the future when Sean Taylor's legal status is still in question. Now we need to concentrate on defensive line, corner and O-line depth. I know some of these areas will be addressed on the draft using whatever picks we have left. |

Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?
I love the moves so far and we're not done yet.
A question that keeps coming to me is what does this mean for Patten? He's pretty well paid for a 4th reviever and doesn't play special teams which has been the down fall of others with Gibbs. Gibbs tolerace for guys who run their mouthes is also short. I wouldn't buy a house in DC if I were Patten. As for Randle el and Lloyd I'd say they might get more touches this coming year than they got last season no matter who is the #2 or #3. Aa looks like a great addition for this team because of GW system. The difference between this and 2000 is this time we're bringing in guys who can help this team now and in the future because they're young. Thats wasn't the case in 2000. |
