Re: ESPN Mock Draft concerning the Redskins

Usually players in the bottom part of the 1st round are expected to be solid starters (QB's and RB's don't have this luxury WR's can but not always). Last years examples are guys like Travis Johnson, Alex Spencer, Luis Castilo, Marlin Jackson. Alex Barron, Thomas Davis, Jamal Brown. The teams that drafted them don't expect these guys to be pro bowlers but they do expect them to be dependable starters that they feel comfortable with.

As That Guy said before, the retention rate is a better measure of 1st round success. However if you take a player in the Top 10 and their not being considered for the Pro Bowl year after year you got yourself a bust (For example if Jon Jansen had been a top 10 pick we wouldn't be calling him a bust)

Its not just you, man... Are there any terms of service or anything? I dont mean to get touchy, but one of the things I love about the Warpath is that everyone is cool and respectful, without any of the angry or offensive flames that populate so many other boards (cough, CraigsList, cough cough).

Not sure if the mods are able to do anything about it, but I vote for keeping it light, friendly and Skins-oriented! (unlike my post)

It is offensive and we've notified him via PM. We'll give him the initial opportunity to choose a new screen name.

I hate to say it, but without another CBA extention, those needs will be everywhere.

Hopefully, we have two more Lombardi trophies by then. 5RINGS won't like that tho.

First of all, after having read my earlier post, I feel the need to apologize, you couldn't really get that I was making a joke, so that's my fault. Yeah, I see where you're coming from, however I think that OLB is a more glaring problem than DE right now. I agree that Daniels isn't that good, but I think he's capable.

Also, Carter was playing OLB last year. When he was playing defensive end he had a 12 sack season. That's not a bad year. I wouldn't mind 12 sacks.

And finally, the last point I'm going to make on this subject. I think that we have already spent on a relatively unproven DE, so I'd rather see how that pans out than draft another and hope that they both live up to their potential. I think the Skins should concern themselves with picking a starter.

I also really don't know what the knock on Daniels is. He had a GREAT season, batting numerous passes and pressuring the QB if NOT getting to him.

You said just because you get picked in the first round does not mean you are very good. Any player that is drafted in the first day has done alot to get there and they are all good. Now, if they can step up to the next level is always to be seen. I just feel we do not give guys credit for just getting on the field and even having a chance to make a team. Do you realize how many kids start in junior high then high school then college and the pool just keeps getting smaller until they reach the draft. I know all of you know this I just thought we should remember all of the accomplishments this kids have made just to get here . Hopefully the skins can pick the best from among them with the picks we have and the positions we need to fill.

Re: ESPN Mock Draft concerning the Redskins

I doubt we draft a corner at 53 , we have 3 proven corners and two young kids we have been developing < Jimoh and Patterson > . Maybe in the 5thrd we go corner . Lb , if D. Ryans falls to 53 , we probably take him , the other Lb who may drop to us is Mcintosh ,, he has a history of back and shoulder inj's ,,, that is too riscky at 53 . If Tapp or any DL man who can pass rush is at 53 , take him ,,, nobody wins a super bowl without a strong pass rush !

Re: ESPN Mock Draft concerning the Redskins

The reason i would love to have another pass rusher is that helps with the pass coverage and i'm not saying daniels is bad but he going over 30 so is everyone else on the dline exceept griffith. Hey i love to have the backer from miami but look at the giants they drafted that kid who had 12 sacks in the first round 3 yrs ago and last year drafted tuck. Our line is good at run stuffing but not great at pass rushing, williams does a great job of getting production from the backers like washington and hopefully clemons. It seems to me the skins never address the need on the dline unless we go thruogh fa. And i still havent gotten over stubblefield n big daddy. Heck we still might need another corner, springs over 30, rogers is good with that kid from jacksonville, but would like to have another corner besides jomo.

Re: ESPN Mock Draft concerning the Redskins

I doubt that Springs , Rogers and Wright all go down this year , so Jimoh and Patterson will not see much action . We do need a safety who can run , and we have no depth there , and Taylor still has a trial to go through . Bring in Sharper or Polley at lb , bring back # 28 at corner and draft a pass rushing deamon ,,,, we will nickname him SON IN LAW !!!!

Re: ESPN Mock Draft concerning the Redskins

harper is ancient, polley sucks, we could use another safety, but cb is also still a need. nickel corners play a lot, and springs is old. not a dire or immediate need, but its still there.

Something is telling me it gets dismissed due to DJ Dirty Sanchez.

Re: ESPN Mock Draft concerning the Redskins

I couldn't find a link to any stats so I did my own. The file can be found here. Make of it what you want but I found that 1'st round picks are all that great.

Notes:
1. The spreadsheet has multiple tabs and was done with excel.
2. A Pro-bowl player is only counted once even if they make the pro-bowl multiple times. My take is that an early round draftee either makes it to the pro-bowl or he doesn't.
