It's a valid point. Are you saying we arent going to double strahan or Uminyora? If we are doubling one of the(or both) who will be blocking? if cooley is blocking, is it save to say his production will be down? If cooley isnt blocking, is it safe to say he is by the cheerleaders on the sidelines? what about demarcus ware for dallas?can our guys handle him one on one? Javon kearse? Sometimes people are so narrow minded. Football is chess not checkers people... |

Re: Will Our crappy O-Line kill cooleys production?
I can't tell if you're serious about this. Portis did break the Redskins single season rushing record. That can't be done with a crappy o-line. Someone in the Redskins front office seems to think Samuels is good for him to receive that huge contract ("Redskin for life!").In no way are they one of the best o-lines (Seattle, KC) but they are definitely above average.

That's the key to it: how did kc do it ? And can the skins oline do the same ? I'm hoping and assuming they can.

Re: Will Our crappy O-Line kill cooleys production?
I think we can assume that Cooley is going to be the primary receiving TE, and Fauria will be the primary blocking TE.
Cooley will likely be in motion alot to present defenses with matchup problems. Saunders knows how to utilize a TE, so my guess is we won't see Cooley tangled up with defensive ends too often. |

So why are so worried about Cooley? What about the team as a whole and winning the Super Bowl? If Cooley has to block - so be it. It is part of the job description for a tight end anyway. |

Re: Will Our crappy O-Line kill cooleys production?
Our line has def underachieved many times, and playing devils' advocate, Portis did break alot of records, bc he touched the ball ALOT, he had alot of carries. But the line still protected Brunell well, and got us through the season. Are we the best? No but we are one of the better lines in the league. Compare this line to the one we had with Spurrier(his plays took too long as well), our line is much better now. Now that we have more offensive threats, that will also take some pressure off the line, bc they have to cover all our recievers well.

Re: Will Our crappy O-Line kill cooleys production?
Im not worried about cooley. I would rather see speed guys with the ball in their hands...
But, cooley was an Hback last year, he didnt have to block. This year he will have blooking duties. Our line isnt as good as KC's if Gonzales was on our team he would probably have block more. |

Re: Will Our crappy O-Line kill cooleys production?
Everyone forgets that Saunders employed a fullback fairly often. Anybody remember Tony Richardson? How many Pro Bowls did he make as a fullback? I'm fairly confident Mike Sellers can handle those duties. Still not sure what the answer is to that double team question, but I highly doubt Portis, Cooley and all three wideouts will run routes on passing plays. I expect if the team uses Sellers in a blocking capacity, any one of the halfback, tight end, or receivers will leave the field to accommodate that demand. As for the questions about KC's offensive success: I think that an elite o-line coupled with solid RBs and ultimately excellent play calling and scheming was responsible for the team's offensive success. With our starting o-line going into its third year together, I'm sure we'll be fine. And RB is a definite strength for us. As for play calling and scheming, Gibbs, Saunders, etc. will make it happen. Why is everybody so worried?

And I forgot why we overpayed for a blocking TE this offseason. And all of last season, I didnt see Clinton and Chris both help the tackles out briefly and then release into the flat or right over the middle to pick up first downs. Call me narrow minded again, prick, and we can debate something more important than your analysis of my analysis on something neather of us understands. |
