Willie Parker had a lot of carries each game, so there is no way that he ran outside every play. Nobody gets 255 carries and doesn't go through the middle. They also have Verron Haynes and Duce Staley to make up for the few yards that Bettis got. They are both big backs that got more yards per carry than bettis last year. And Roethlisberger will probably pass it more, now that he is more experienced and he has shown that he can handle it. He will have a great season...and it's not because of the system.

Re: Is Brunell a good quarterback?
bettis was a nice guy, but his production was already tailing off. they still got krieder at FB and faneca at guard etc. they'll be alright. OLines/TEs/FBs are, on average, way more important than RBs (unless you've got jim brown or barry sanders).

Re: Is Brunell a good quarterback?
Brunell threw decent long balls last season, but Santana Moss had to wait for some of those passes. With all these speedy WRs we have now, I hope Brunell is able to get the ball to them on stride.

Re: Is Brunell a good quarterback?
I'd keep Brunell over all these guys:
Ben Roethlisberger Matt Hasselbeck Marc Bulger Brad Johnson Jake Delhomme Eli Manning Kurt Warner Steve McNair leaving: Tom Brady Trent Green Peyton Manning Carson Palmer (healthy)

Re: Is Brunell a good quarterback?
Brunell played incredibly last season when he was healthy and his accuracy, running ability for making plays and field prowess are among the leagues best. Way smarter and field savvy than Brad Johnson and all the others.

http://www.pro-football-reference.co...s/TheiJo00.htm From 1978-1984, he was consistently ranking in the top ten for statistical categories for quarterbacks, with an effective scrambling threat to boot. In fact, he was the last scrambling QB Washington had before Brunell. It's been such a long time since he's played, and many of the members here at the Warpath have never seen him play. Most people think of him now as an annoying broadcaster, they forget that he really was a great player. Edit: When the history books are written, the three best quarterbacks Washington ever had will be Baugh, Jurgenson, and Theismann. |

He's also much less likely to throw the ball into traffic or gamble than when he was young. Sometimes I think he was too conservative, but overall I'll give Brunelll his props & hope he can stay healthy. He deserves to end his career on a high note. |

Re: Is Brunell a good quarterback?
I can't believe we are having this conversation again. How many times did we have it during last season, and how many this offseason. In my mind Brunell should have been in the pro bowl. Vick should not have been there. The guy is a quality QB who can win games. Its been unproven if he can win the big game. I think with the talent we have around him this season it will be less pressure on him to win the game and just be one of the pieces that wins the game.
