Hey, we beat a bad team I dont think anyone is questioning that. If we played (say the Seahawks in Seattle today), it could have been alot closer. Overall though, we just played a much better football game on both sides of the ball.

Brunell, as much shit as you want to give him for only throwing short, played a good, smart game. We may need to open it up a little more down the strech this year, but he played well today, no doubt.

Portis coming back was a lift for the offense, somthing I think Springs coming back to the D can do as well since we should be able to blitz a lot more with him back.

I'm very happy with the team today. I understand it was the Texans, but it was still (hopefully) the buliding block that I was hoping that this game was going to be.

yeah, my point is that looked like the game plan & he executed it. I love the ball control, but we do need to air it out a little

I couldn't believe the name of this thread!...made me sick!...Just got back from bar watching the game with the family......FINALLY something to be excited about...we beat a team that we should beat..the way we should beat them!!!... and this DOWNER DUMB ASS title of a thread.....Yes they THAT bad but we beat them like we should have. I think it was a combo of a bad team meeting a good team that is just starting to wake up.

Today's positives:

--The offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage. If it wasn't for the penalties it would have been a flawless performance.

--We finally got Brunell in a rhythm. I don't care if it was just short and quick stuff, the bottom line is he got the job done and got everyone involved. That will work wonders for his confidence. If anyone needed a game like that it was him.

--Yes Portis is that important. He's the straw that stirs the Redskins' drink. He changes the entire dynamic of this offense.

The negatives:

--Penalties, penalties, penalties.

definitely the flags, some of those holding calls were weak, I hope the refs aren't givin us a rep

Don't get me wrong, I saw significant improvement in the call playing on D, and the offensive line, however a HUGE issue for us was that Brunell could not see downfield and was afraid to open the offense. I feel that issue is still a major issue. We beat them with the same offensive scheme we employed vs Dallas and the Vikes. ie: screen passes and dink dumps. That theory proved not to work vs Dallas and Minnesota so why did we stick with it today?
We face the Jags next week and a stout defense, yet I don't feel our offense is actually clicking. (yes, I do realize the amount of yards we put up) Our secondary still looked amazingly weak too. Hopefully we gained a lot of confidence though...you can't put a price tag on that.
Positives: what a running game!!! That was impressive. The dirt bags controlled the line of scrimmage, and having Portis back was outstanding.
Better play calling on defense, especially better penetration by d-line. So there is a lot to build on, but I feel we faced a weak team more than we came together.

I think a WIN is a WIN. We didn't just "squeak" by, as some of you guys thought. The score wasn't 17-10. We really BEAT them. HAIL!!!!

No doubt Houston is weak. But as folks have been saying, we did what we needed to do--pound a weak team into submission with ball control.

Remember, this is STILL a very new offense. It takes time to get a rhytm, especially on the longer passing game. This game was the perfect way to get some of that rhythm. We're of course going to have to be better. But this is a start. Now it's back home for JAX, and we'll see if we can do it against a good team.

PS I really don't see how one can bitch about Brunnell in a game where he sets an NFL record for passes completed in a row and leads the team to 28 points. Cripes, what do y'all want from him? To morph into Dan Marino suddenly at age 36? He is what he is, and Saunders did a great job exploiting his skills today.

The nice thing about having success solely on the short game is that our opponents are going to have to gameplan towards that. Remember Saunders typically doesn't run the same plays week in and week out. I think versus JAX we'll see quite a few long pass attempts to Lloyd, Randle El and some other dude that's good at catching the long ball.

I would like to beleive that, but it's not like Saunders asks Brunell to throw short. He sets up the plays with options for downfield passes, and short passes...Brunell checks down to the short passes and gives up on the deep passes. It's not Saunders, it's Brunell.
