Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
Thus far this season, I have been an advocate of Mark Brunell remaining the starting quarterback. I have been an advocate because I believe that he isn't the reason why we lost games we should have won (Minnesota & Tennessee). I still feel that way, and my opinion is that he will remain the starting quarterback until he gets hurt, or we are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. The bigger question is how do we make our defense better, not when we will switch quarterbacks, but that is for another thread. Bottom line is once we are eliminated from the wildcard picture, we will probably see a quarterback change. If we do get eliminated from contention and we don't see a quarterback change, then I will really begin to question what's going on with the coaching staff. Sorry guys but Brunell is the guy for now, and if the rest of the team improves around him we still have a good chance at this. He can't do it alone...no quarterback can. Not even JC.

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
If Mark Brunell comes out flat, and can't get Moss and Co. the ball in INDI and that's why we lose... Brunell is out.
The questions are now in his face. The idea is floating around, but he's being ole' Joe Gibbs and staying the course. I just think if it blows up in his face in INDI, He can't start him after the bye. It'll be the perfect opportunity to give JC a head start, he knows that. He wants above all for his team to win, and if he has an epiphany at the INDI game the switch will be made. Granted the reason we lose HAS to be Mark. Brunell has to prove the skeptics right. Not very likely... but not very unlikely either. Brunell may lose his own Job this week. It's up to him.

I have a bad feeling we are going to drop one to either the Bucs or the Panthers. JC makes his first start following whichever one we lose.

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
You're absolutely right, RobH. The idea that he may be benched is floating around Brunell's head this week. From the booing he received at home on Sunday to the fact that ESPN felt it necessary to put that he was getting the start v. the Colts on it's bottomline (which I thought was very telling) he's been forced to face the possiblity that he may be close to losing his job.
Hopefully this causes him to man up on Sunday and he can prove many of us (including myself) wrong.

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
we all forget that JC isn't a rookie! if it's because he still hasn't started a game, then how do you ever stop "being a rookie" if you never play?

I agree that they understand that Brunell is not the sole cause to all of their struggles, but any potential coaching decision (whether or not it's the right one) that isn't made, players will talk about it amoungst themselves. The key difference is that with Joe Gibbs, we don't ever know about it and thats a damn good thing. (see New York Giants)

As soon as you want to concede the season, make the switch.

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
You assume that Brunell is our best option right now - I'm not sure that I would concede that. The way he's playing, he'll probably finish up 5-4, which is not a playoff record. I think Campbell can do 5-4, if not better, although he may lose a couple up front as he gets acclimated.
At this point, though, our best shot is with a shakeup. Time may prove that sticking with Brunell gets us to the playoffs, but all that means is that lower percentage option hit. I'll take the odds, thank you. |

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
I love that the Skins are rallying behind Brunell, but how many wide receivers must he skip passes to before we stop romanticizing our qb situation?
If JC doesn't start, at the very least move him up to #2 and put him in for a series or two each half and see if he gives us a spark. If the only argument for keeping Brunell is that he doesn't lose games, well that's not something we have to worry about since we're not winning games right now. Put in Campbell, pound the ball, and playing qb gets easier. But I think the reason we can't point to QB as a problem is because we can't point to anything that's working. As for Brunell, he's a 14 year vet, and this isn't the first time a first rounder was brought in to compete for his job (Leftwich, Jax). He's a pro, and I'm sure that he'll be for whatever helps the team win. |

good points, but...did anyone but me watch the youtube clips of JC's preseason?? dude, he look wonderful!!!!! better than brunell has loooked in the last 3 years, hands down!(except maybe that Dallas Game on the comeback!) i agree, Gibbs doesnt want to raise the white flag until absolutley necessary. I presonally thinks he wont do it because of snyder i mean come on how pissed would he be if this (early?) we conceded the season? after he spent all that $$$$ staff and players? just a thought,....

I agree with memphis' idea of moving JC up to #2.
