Re: Randle El Signing Shows Why Skins Can't Compete
To all the people who bash ARE, let's take a look at the past for a second. He was the third receiver in Pitt for a while behind Burress. It was not until he was the number 2 guy that they won the superbowl. I know that most of the credit goes to a great defense and a solid running game, but they had that before. Anytime ARE gets the ball he has the potential to make a big play, just like he did for Pitt last year, I'm glad we have him. Once we can get him the ball more I think he'll show to be a great acquisition. Plus, I heard he's a good locker room guy, someone that the players respect and always stays positive. We need a veteran guy like him to help lead this team.

That's comparing apples to oranges. Cooley doesn't have WR speed or hands.

Re: Randle El Signing Shows Why Skins Can't Compete
I'm just comparing offensive weapons. The big WR theory is seriously overrated these days anyway, especially with the new rules that favor the WRs.

Re: Randle El Signing Shows Why Skins Can't Compete
I've been wondering about that...
Maybe a lot of familiar people under new names? A lot seem to "slide" into the discussion more easily than a lot of newbies. (E.g., wouldn't a true newbie start posting slowly and then gradually up his posting frequency? Wouldn't a newbie also contribute to existing existing threads rather than start new ones?) Or is it possible that these people were kicked off other boards for their behavior and are landing here in droves? |

Re: Randle El Signing Shows Why Skins Can't Compete
i completely agree. Lloyd was a bad signing. we would've been just as good, if not better with Moss, Randle El, and Patten as the three WR's!

I like Randle El, and he will be worth the money if we can free up a roster place by using him as the third QB

Re: Randle El Signing Shows Why Skins Can't Compete
I know the whole 20/20 thing and hindsight...
But it is painfully obvious that the FO made SERIOUSLY BAAAAD judgement of character with the players they picked up this year. Not that they are bad guys, but I think that the Skins thougt these guys would respond to a team that showed them the appreciation and the $$ they didn't get from their previous teams. AND BOY WERE THEY WRONG. ARE got BIG TIME money and he was not a Big Time Player. Same with Lloyd and Arch and Carter.

First I want to say welcome to the board...... This general topic has been hashed and rehashed here ever since the team started losing games, and it became painfully obvious we were not going to play up to expectations. Randle El is a playmaker. His productivity has been curtailed because we haven't as yet, found the most creative ways to utilize his talents. He does have a long term contract, and considering the length of time we expect him to be here, I think he will become more effective as he's intergrated more into the offense. The jury is still out on different area's of this team, but some things need time to become the best that they will be. I too have often shook my head on the Duckett trade, so if you have reservations about that one, you're not alone.

I think we signed Brandon Lloyd before we signed Randle El, there was just a short spand of time between the signings.

AA is not even worth further comment, neither is the model citizen. far as i'm concerned, i don't want Betts back if we keep portis- which we will do. Let him go, use the money we would pay him to beef up CB or D line...whats the point of paying another guy starter money when we already have one of the highest paid back in the league! If we think Betts is THAT good, then let Portis go- which would be problematic given his injury and lack of stats. (relative to his workload).

Re: Randle El Signing Shows Why Skins Can't Compete
There seem to be much bigger fish to fry in this free agent class than ARE. He appears to be one of the only keepers IMO...
