The fact is the league is a different place than it was in the 80s and 90s. Drafting a guy like Art Monk and having him stay on the team for 13 or so years is a thing of the past. It's a thing of the past for most teams out there, and ESPECIALLY for the Washington Redskins. If there is any team that does NOT have "core players" it's the Redskins. This team has a completely different roster every 2 or 3 years. We exchange, trade and drop players like there's no tomorrow, and we consistently pay the penalty. Dreaming about "core Redskins" is like talking about when a gallon of gas cost a nickel and you didn't have to lock your doors cause the neighborhood was so safe.

When Gibbs came back, I loved this term & was glad to hear him use it, made me think that there would be a commitment to keeping our starters at least.
Now the cold reality of the salary cap & the Danny's style of mgmt. are setting in. This offseason will be crucial to Gibbs' relationship w/players. He's got to back up the "core" talk. |
