Re: RUMOR: Skins looking to trade up for C.J.
I think this is in the exact same category as JaMarcus Russell rumors: something floated by his agents trying to boost his value. I don't buy for a second.

Re: RUMOR: Skins looking to trade up for C.J.
I keep hearing people talking about all of our needs. I'm not seeing us with a ton of needs. I think we're fairly well set at secondary with PP back, a SS would be nice, but I wouldn't call that a need. Smoot/Springs (or Bly)/ and Rogers is a solid CB core. London Fletcher, Marcus Washington, and Marshall/Rocky at WLB, our D line does need some help. Im not sold that Wynn and Daniels are completely done and I like what I've seen from Golston. This is our biggest need.
On offense we need some line depth, something you can get late in the draft. Our WRs are okay, I would like to see us get a big blocking TE, yet again another late round selection, RB we're set at, and QB we're fine. I don't see the skins with any pressing needs besides Dline that would keep us from taking the best available player. It all depends on what trading up would cost.

Re: RUMOR: Skins looking to trade up for C.J.
due diligence people. anyone that could possibly fall to them has to be scouted for the draft, and for future FA periods. their job is to see as many prospects as possible, so these stupid rumors popping up every time someone sneezes at a pro day are ridiculous.
if he does fall to 6 for some reason an they didn't bother doing their homework, they'd look pretty f'ing stupid. they need to see if he's worth taking there (just in case) or giving away in a trade down. due diligence. |

That was my point, how else are you gonna get CJ .....the draft.? Do you really believe we will draft up? No, I don't think so. Do you believe CJ is gonna be there at #6 if we don't move at all? Not. Look at the source it's PFT,......it would be great to get this guy. However, I don't see the SKINS going up in the draft. Do you?? we need more picks in the draft.

I dont see us trading up, I just think its one of those things were "if he falls...". Werent we interested in Robert Gallery and attended his workouts also? I just think there looking at everything, with that said I would not be disappointed to see him in DC |

Re: RUMOR: Skins looking to trade up for C.J.
It seems like every year there's a WR/TE whose workout makes everybody freak out like this...
2007 - Calvin Johnson 2006 - Vernon Davis 2005 - Braylon Edwards 2004 - Larry Fitzgerald / Kellen Winslow Jr 2003 - Charles Rogers / Andre Johnson And for every Larry Fitz, Andre Johnson or Roy Williams there are plenty players like Charles Rogers, Mike Williams, Bryant Johnson, Ashlie Lelie, David Terrell, Koren Robinson, Rod Gardner, Peter Warrick, David Boston, Michael Westbrook or Desmond Howard who are high 1st round picks that have been busts or have had disappointing careers. If you could go back to 1996 and have the Jets # 1 overall pick.. would you choose Keyshawn Johnson? Or would you rather have Simeon Rice at 3 Ogden at 4 or a better WR Marvin Harrison at 19... How about Ray Lewis at 26. If you went back in time and told the Jets that Harrison was going to be a better WR then Keyshawn they would have called you a fool. Back in 2005 it seemed like 75% of Skins fans out there wanted us o draft Mike Williams... (Too bad we weren't talking Shawne Merriman or Demarcus Ware). I hope this year we aren't seduced by the sexy WR at the top of the draft and trade up to pick CJ... Although if he somehow lasts to 6 we HAVE to take him!

Excellent post.
The only thing is you can't coach/develop superior atheleticism so people will always be enamored with it. Your right though it doesn't always pan out. Quote:

Re: RUMOR: Skins looking to trade up for C.J.
Yes, good point. Still want CJ, though. I think you have to make good judgments about people and not get enamored with physical ability when it isn't accompanied with a team spirit and a professional approach to playing.
You could say the same thing in reverse about Jerry Rice. People didn't think so much about him because they didn't think he quite had the speed, and he was from a small school. People would have gone to great lengths to have gone back and drafted him afterward. We will be lucky if he is available even for two number ones anyway. But I think the team has learned from experience and will only make this move if all the indicators about his personality, spirit, and ability look good. Quote:

Re: RUMOR: Skins looking to trade up for C.J.
I say if he can rush the passer while playing defensive end. And, if he can get like 20 sacks. Oh, he would also have to be oustanding at stopping the run. Doing this while giving us the second coming of Jerry Rice at wide receiver. I say sure, sounds good to me.

Re: RUMOR: Skins looking to trade up for C.J.
Football is a team sport, last I checked. One, superstud WR is not all this team needs.
We can't keep relying on free agency being our main source of players to fill out our roster. With cap space more and more abundant around the league, fewer and fewer players are making it to the free agent market; they're all getting signed before then. We can't afford to give up picks in a trade-up scenario, even for a "can't miss" (I don't buy that term about anybody, but it's used by people anyway) WR. We need multiple players to build a good young core. Our existing core is getting older and needs to be replenished.

Re: RUMOR: Skins looking to trade up for C.J.
cj is going to be an amazing player, but we dont need to give up even more picks to move up to get him. if hes there at 6 then maybe consider him, but do not give up even more picks to get him
