I could see this being a draft day deal as we get more desperate, but theres also an outside chance that Rosenhaus and the Bears work out their differences and get Briggs to sign the tender under an agreement to not tag him next year sometime between now and the draft. This trade is hardly dead, but it's good to see the chances of it happening are going down.

Snyder was behind the trade - this is how the whole thing got started when Briggs and Rosenthaul approached Snyder and Snyder said he would love to have briggs in a trade of first round picks. Any bashing on Snyder i feel is well advised. What postive changes has he brought about since his ownership - ticket prices not going up this year (even though they went up a ridculess amount last year)? |

Thinking Briggs could come to DC and make a impact, is also, a pretty damn good educated guess. I'm sure he would do just fine. Futhermore, I or anyone at this point would just be guessing as to what the coaching staff really think of Rocky or Lemar? The thought from my view point is the need to justify bringing in a high end player, espically a Linebacker, when I think or NEEDS should be focused on the D-line. Not spending alot of cash on one player, when we can trade DOWN get more picks/players for the cash!

I think that Gibbs is turned off by Okoye's age because of his preference for older players, but I also feel that his fears are unwarrented. Yeah, hes 19, but he also played 4 full seasons in college. That's some simply invaluable experience. He's mature beyond his years, and he's the true once in a lifetime player in this draft. If I was GM of the Redskins, and I had the No. 1 overall pick instead of the 6th, and I was absolutely unable to trade out of it, I would take Okoye first overall. That said, I could see why Gibbs might pass on him. And looking past him, the value of player available at No. 6 isnt very good for what we like to do. So if we can trade down out of the 6th pick, I'd be all for that I guess, even if it costs us Okoye (since theres no guarentee we'd draft him anyway). But I'd be much more satisfied with extra picks than with a veteran like Briggs. This team is not short on veteran leadership. We need cheap, young guys to be able to bring along slowly that will be the heart and sould of this team three years down the road. The best possible move would be selecting Okoye at 6, but there are a bunch of other good moves. Luckily, this Briggs talk is put to rest for now, so we can explore those other options.

Re: The Last Briggs Thread? Bears Say No Deal
Nobody wants the 6th pick. Including the Bears. We obviously made no secret about the fact we would prefer to trade down and acquire more picks. But thus far we have no takers. And the Bears have no need for any of the players worthy of the 6th pick, plus they don't want to pick up a rookie contract of that size. So they would want to trade the pick, and they have seen how hard that can be based on our inability to do so.
So in their eyes if they make the trade with us: 1) They get a pick they don't need or want 2) They lose a pick they could really use 3) They lose a pro-bowl player for a draft choice- proven player for potential - not good 4) They send a message to their players that hey, if you're not happy, this is how you get outta town and get paid. I don't see an upside for Chicago. I don't blame them for nixing the deal.

Re: The Last Briggs Thread? Bears Say No Deal
There has to be more to this than whats on the surface. I think that the Bears and the Redskins might be working together. First of all the Briggs trade makes Briggs look like hes in demand which would make other teams feel like the window of oppurtunity to acquire Briggs was closing. Desperate people do desperate things.
The Redskins on the other hand get to look like they are no longer pushovers by telling the Bears this is their final offer. They also get to add to their smoke and mirrors job regarding what they're going to do with the 6th pick. Man I love conspiracy theories.

Re: The Last Briggs Thread? Bears Say No Deal
Firstdown:
Danny Boy went to the Wash Post and crowed about how he personally had "discovered" Patrick Ramsey and that he had "made the decision to draft him first". That wasn't a rumor; Snyder was quoted in the Wash Post Sunday magazine about that. So, there is some evidence that he does "freelance" just a bit on football matters once in a while. And if he initiated the talks on this deal as has been suggested and if he informed Gibbs of his offer AFTER he made the offer as has been suggested, then he's meddling - - AGAIN. Oh, and Snyder can be as big on this deal as he wants to be and it still takes an agreement from the Chicago Bears to make it happen. He can stamp his feet and throw a tantrum and fire any three random people who work for him - he's done all those things in the past too by the way - and it still would not give him the "juice" to make the deal happen if the Bears' don't want it to happen. If bashing coaches and owners and players and Front Office geniuses really makes you upset, I guess I better issue a blanket apology right now...

Re: The Last Briggs Thread? Bears Say No Deal
WashingtonPost.com has said that we said no to the counter offer
-"The Washington Redskins' proposed trade for Chicago linebacker Lance Briggs stalled today when the team rejected the Bears' counteroffer, according to sources involved in the negotiations" Good news b/c later on it says they asked for Rocky McIntosh heres the link http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...040301321.html |

After reading that article it appears doubtful that this will be the last Briggs thread. It says that with 25 days till the draft more talks are likely. I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL APRIL 28TH!!!

Unless one of us can say we were there, I don't think any of us can definitely say what went down.

Of course, down the road, we selected Campbell, so that put a stop to that experiment. Lets keep something straight though. Campbell>Ramsey.

Ramsey on the other hand, great arm strength. One shoot to the head to many under the Spurrier era. I think he's a lifetime backup.
